Free, Family Event - Park Sheridan Quest - Set for July 16

Pirates, treasure hunts and riches await adventure seekers at the Hollywood Gazette’s Park Sheridan Quest and Open House event on Thursday, July 16.

Anyone looking for food, fun and fantastic prizes is invited to attend this family-oriented event, designed to promote Hollywood businesses in the Park Sheridan Plaza while providing entertainment for participants.

On the evening of the event, which starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m., contestants will arrive at one of three designated locations at the plaza and will receive a map and a series of clues for the treasure hunt. The clues will guide the treasure seekers on a store-to-store journey.

For every contestant who successfully completes the Quest, he or she can then enter a raffle to win prizes, including a grand prize of a three-night stay for a family of four at the Doubletree Castle Hotel in Orlando just minutes away from all the city’s main attractions.

To go along with the treasure hunt theme, children will have the option of receiving a compass, telescope or eye patch, and the event will also include free food from participating stores, and other kid-friendly activities, such as an interactive book reading by award-winning Hollywood author and adventure photographer Bob Wallace.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place at the Park Sheridan Plaza located at 3301-3399 Sheridan St. next to TY Park on North Park Road.

Marlins Announce Community Sales Force Program

Let me know, a little extra cash!!

MARLINS UNVEIL UNPRECEDENTED COMMUNITY SALES FORCE PROGRAM

Miami, FL – The Florida Marlins today announced details surrounding a first-of-a-kind sales program called the Marlins Community Sales Force (MCSF). This sales program will provide an opportunity for individuals (18+ years old) who are currently out of work or looking for a new source of income, to earn money by assisting with the selling of Marlins ticket plans. The announcement was made by Marlins owner, Jeffrey H. Loria.

“With unemployment and job losses where they currently stand in South Florida, I wanted to provide an opportunity for individuals and families to increase their income by partnering with their hometown ball club,” said Mr. Loria. “This program will allow participants to earn additional income, maintain and develop professional skills, establish new business networks and potentially earn a full-time position with our organization.”

General Overview of MCSF:

- Registration will start today and close July 19

- Program will commence on July 20, 2009 (orientation sessions for accepted applicants) and close on February 15, 2010

- Participants will be partnered with a specialized Marlins Sales Executive

- Commissions and bonuses will be paid on new season and group ticket sales

- Commission rates range from 5% - 10% plus bonuses

- Marlins will consider hiring top performers as full-time Sales Executives

In continuation of what the Marlins unveiled in March with the five Economic Relief Ticket Programs that included a Marlins Mortgage Payout, Workforce Mondays and Go Green, Get Green, this new initiative invites everyone to take advantage of a program that is unique to the sports world.

Those interested in joining the Marlins Community Sales Force can register on-line at marlins.com, in-person at the Marlins Executive Offices or Marlins en Miami store and during home games at Marlins Ticket Sales Kiosks. All applicants must complete and sign a Program Registration Form and return it to the Marlins by e-mail, fax, mail or in-person. Full program details and Registration Forms are available at marlins.com.

Oh Yes It's Ladies' Night:
Girls Night Out For Charity
Where’s the beef? It’s right here between Yelp's buns! That’s right, from the legendary Le Tub to the polarizing 8 Oz, Miami is full of taste-y bur-gers. Now follow along as this flame-broiled Weekly gets all up in your grill to break down some of the juiciest, most mouth-watering burgers in town.

Perhaps a hamburger tastes best when topped with a little history. 2009 marked the return of 71-year old Royal Castle and the South Florida institution is once again serving their signature mini-burgers to devoted fans around the clock. Now supporters like Brian B can savor "good breakfast-style bacon (not the crap you get at some fast food joints)" atop their famous sliders. Greg A prefers to go big, with "a tasty, mammoth, gut-busting burger" at Kingdom: "In addition to their 9 oz. and 12 oz. burgers, they also now have a 24 oz. 'Doomsday' burger." Apocalypse wow. Also on the hunt for the prime patties, Eve C stumbled upon Rocky's, which "dishes up some of the best burgers and fries in this town." Ivan Drago, eat your heart out.

Miami being an international hub, we'd be remiss not to interject with some foreign takes on the traditional. When it comes to fast fritas piled high with crispy shoestring fries, nothing beats El Rey de las Fritas for Gianni D. Meanwhile, Rob C's favorite Colombian "hamburgers on steroids" are at MAO. "What makes them especially tasty is the crunchy fritas, the jamon, queso, mayo, egg, a couple of unknown tasty sauces and pineapple sauce at the end!"

See, even a classic can use a modern update. Metro serves burgers up hot, fresh, and organic, like Ramon C's, which was a medium-rare ground filet mignon that he "could taste was grass-fed." For a gourmet take, there can only be one... or perhaps about thirty varieties, offered at One Burger. Melanie E is in a burger love triangle between "the fancy bacon cheddar burger and the black, black, and blue burger, a subtle concoction that includes bean paste and blue cheese." Why not order both? And while Whisk may only serve burgers on Fridays, that's evidently often enough for a cult following. Danny F regards his weekly ground-chuck intake "like a secret affair, having at it with little regard to dining mores." It's Friday, and he's in love.

Where do you take a bite of the best? Talk is sizzlin'.

(A Word from Our Sponsor) Come experience a 360° heart-pounding theatrical experience!
A mash up between aerial theater and a late-night dance party!
The Adrienne Arsht Center presents Fuerza Bruta Miami. The first week sold out and yelpers are raving about the show! Audiences are engulfed in a 360° spectacle featuring mind-blowing visual effects just inches above their heads. It must be seen to be believed - a man running full throttle on a giant treadmill, bursting through a series of moving walls; performers suspended in mid-air surrounded by a vast sea of mylar; and gorgeous women twisting ethereally in a lucite pool.

Now through July 5th use Yelp discount code FBYELP for $10 off Tues, Wed, and Sunday performances!

Announcement from MiamiLink.org "Tech Tuesdays" are back........ in Downtown Miami‏

Group: MiamiLink.org
Subject: Announcement from MiamiLink.org "Tech Tuesdays" are back........ in Downtown Miami
Tuesdays became “Tech Day” with the 1998 launch in London of First Tuesday, the technology networking organization formed to bring technology innovators together with the funding organizations and service providers necessary for their enterprises to grow.

A year later, Tuesday Network was launched in Miami with a similar purpose. Monthly
gatherings at the Omni Colonnade Hotel in Coral Gables drew many hundreds of attendees to hear speakers and meet one another as the local Internet economy took shape.

This is to introduce the NEW Tech Tuesday Social Hour in Downtown Miami.

Our goal is to focus on the emergence of a new Urban Technology Hub in Downtown Miami.

The kickoff event will be held:

Tuesday, June 23, 2009
6:00 to 9:00 P.M.
ECCO Pizzateca, 168 SE First Street (corner of SE 2 Avenue)……..

Respond to Alejandra at: alejandra at gd-b.com or 305-381-7909

Tech Tuesday events are sponsored by The Miami Urban Technology Alliance, a project of the Downtown Miami Partnership, with an initial membership consisting of:
- 200 SE First Street

DailyCandy Miami - Ooh, Baby, You Like It Raw‏

Ooh, Baby, You Like It Raw
So Raw Music Festival

At the last music festival you attended, you ate suspicious baked goods and heard tons of great tunes.

But they were inside your head.

For live local music, there’s this weekend’s inaugural So Raw Festival: seventeen garage-rock bands playing over two days. A local art collective — three college students who want to showcase raw talent in Miami — is throwing the event.

There’ll be local bands (Jacuzzi Boys, Teepee, Electric Bunnies), along with out-of-state up-and-comers like The Yolks and Pink Reason. (Never heard of them? That’s kind of the point.) Also on hand: works by local artists and all-you-can-drink Select Vodka and beer (or BYO).

The night shows will be at the ISM Gallery in Wynwood, and Saturday afternoon’s affair is at the UES Garden. A weekend pass is just $18.

The price won’t mushroom.

Irena Salina's award-winning documentary is an investigation into what experts label the most important political and environmental issue of the 21st Century - The World Water Crisis. Salina builds a case against the growing privatization of the world's dwindling fresh water supply with an unflinching focus on politics, pollution, human rights, and the emergence of a domineering world water cartel. Beyond identifying the problem, FLOW also gives viewers a look at the people and institutions providing practical solutions to the water crisis and those developing new technologies, which are fast becoming blueprints for a successful global and economic turnaround.

Climates (Iklimler)

(Directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan/ Turkey 2006)

With Ebru Ceylan. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Nazan Kirilmis

Winner of the prestigious FIPRESCI Award at Cannes, Climates is Nuri Bilge Ceylan's sublime follow-up to his Cannes multi-award winner Distant. Beautifully drawn and meticulously observed, the film vividly recalls the cinema of Antonioni with its poetic use of landscape and the incisive, exquisitely visual rendering of loneliness, loss and the often-elusive nature of happiness. During a sweltering summer vacation on the Aegean coast, the relationship between middle-aged professor Isa (played by Ceylan himself) and his younger, television producer girlfriend Bahar (Ceylan's real-life wife) brutally implodes. . .

WINNER: Cannes Film Festival FIPRISCI Prize

1960 Academy Award Winner and winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival, Marcel Camus' Black Orpheus retells the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice against the madness of Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. With its magnificent color photography and lively soundtrack, this film brought the infectious bossa nova beat to the United States.

“Taking the ancient Greek myth of a youth who travels to the land of the dead to bring back the woman he loves, and transporting it to the slums of modern day Rio de Janeiro, this bittersweet romantic tragedy has charmed audiences the world over with its beauty, color, and—above all—its music.”-David Ehrenstein

Three Monkeys (Üç maymun)

(Directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan/Turkey/2008)

With Yavuz Bingol, Hatice Aslan, Rifat Sungar

After his critically acclaimed mood pieces Distant and Climates, Turkey's leading filmmaker moves in a more plot-driven direction while retaining his mastery of ambience, nuance and astonishing cinematography. Winner of the Best Director prize at Cannes, Three Monkeys tells a twisty, noirish tale that opens with an ambitious politician fleeing a hit-and-run accident. Afraid of hurting his election chances, he pays off his chauffeur Eyüp to take the rap. The film concerns the effects of this devil's bargain on Eyüp's family as simmering tensions and sexual intrigue wreak havoc in a household already haunted by hidden ghosts. In the spirit of Buñuel's The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie and Haneke's Caché, Three Monkeys mounts a caustic critique of the bourgeois family, riddled with hypocrisy yet stubbornly resilient in its seemingly boundless capacity to sidestep guilt and accountability.

In Turkish with English subtitles.

WINNER: Best Director Cannes Film Festival

“BRILLIANT! A confident trust in the combination of stark realism and unadorned melodrama.”-Seattle Times
“POETIC PERFECTION! He has an unerring gift for camera placement, and his slow, measured scenes can be as hypnotic as they are lovely”-Seattle Post

24 WED (and July 01 WED) 8:30pm:

The Miami Beach Premiere of GLOBAL LENS*

In collaboration with The Global Film Initiative

(*a new Wednesday Series! Each film will play twice)

The Global Lens film series was launched in 2003 to support the distribution of unique and critically acclaimed cinematic works from around the world. Each film is selected (with the consultation of the Initiative's Film Board of Directors such as Pedro Almodovar-Spain, Christopher Doyle-China, Mira Nair-India, Carlos Reygades-Mexico, Béla Tarr-Hungary, Lars von Trier-Denmark, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul-Thailand) for its authentic voice, strong cinematics and unique perspective.

Miami Theatrical Premiere!

Getting Home (Luo ye gui gen)

(Directed by Zhang Yang/China/2008)

With Zhao Benshan, Hong Qiwen, Song Danden

In this soulful and humane comedy, Zhao, a middle–aged construction worker, struggles to fulfill

a dying co–worker's last wish to be buried in China's Three Gorges region. Setting out with his colleague's body in tow, Zhao travels hundreds of miles across extraordinary countryside, encountering a number of colorful adventures and characters —and even discovering love in

some unlikely quarters. Director Zhang Yang's humorous and moving tale of friendship offers a powerful, and sometimes slapstick, commentary on the value of community and human connectivity in modern China.

In Mandarin with English subtitles.

The recent rains have many South Floridians speculating we might be in for a long, wet summer. If you find yourself caught in a storm, feel free to take shelter inside a nice, safe bar. Just make sure it's during happy hour, in case you need to stay a while!

There are plenty of sky-high cocktail hours serving up vertigo views alongside dizzyingly delicious drinks. For luxury at its finest, Michelle B imbibes at Club 50, where "the cocktails are innovative, service impeccable and overall the place is just breathtaking!" Even more exciting is their wine tasting & art series, like the one this evening from 5-7pm featuring a complimentary wine tasting with cheeses, charcuterie and a photo exhibit by Venessa Monokian! For a more old Florida experience, check into the historic Angler's Hotel for double dose specials on tastily-named drinks like the White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Martini, Guava Cava, and Face Down In The Pool. Talk about drowning your sorrows!

Sure, South Beach has had more water views than desired of late, but instead of wading it out, why not wait it out with 2-for-1 drinks (Tues-Fri 5-8pm) at Red, The Steakhouse? Meanwhile, at Meat Market, Stephanie L orders a lychee/passion martini, a "good choice," especially considering that everyone gets a second round on the house during their Friday Meat and Great! Just one more reason to love Fridays. At La Cofradia, find Michael S diving into their new pisco sour hour with discounted selections of tiraditos, anticuchos, croquettes, and ceviches "so fresh they taste like they just jumped from the sea to your mouth." Best of all? Their legendary pisco sours will have you puckering up to the bar at only $5-7 a pop.

Across town, Local 55 (formerly known as News Lounge) is celebrating its recent change with half-off well drinks and beers starting at $2.50 weekdays from 5-9pm. Here's to hoping the "hip but not too cool" vibe that Esther C liked about the old space remains the same! Also in the MiMo district, on the first floor of the American Legion Post 29 building, is Harvey's, an old-fashioned, salty dog of a bar. With free pool and well drinks and wine starting at $3.50, it's easy to see why Joseluis A fell in "love at first Glenlivet." Ahh, summer romances!

NOW PLAYING! Erotic, Hypnotic, Aquatic - FUERZA BRUTA‏

Fuerza Bruta
NOW PLAYING
Lynn Wolfson Stage
at the Ziff Ballet Opera House

"A dazzling blend of erotic, hypnotic, aquatic." - New York Post

"A sexy, heart-pounding fantasy. Not many shows can boast that they deliver something you've never seen before. This one does." - New York Daily News

LOOK UP — and experience a non-stop collision of dynamic music, jaw-dropping acrobatics, visceral emotion, and kinetic aerial imagery that resembles nothing less than a mash up between aerial theater and a late-night dance party!

From the creators of the smash-hit De La Guarda, Fuerza Bruta will transform the Lynn Wolfson Stage into an alternate universe with flying dancers, pumping beats, engaging dream sequences and a multidimensional swimming pool above the heads of the audience. The visuals are spectacular! The effects are stunning!

Add to your experience - party before and after the show (Drinks and food available!) in the G-Lounge by Barton G.!
