The critically acclaimed Master Chorale of South Florida returns to the Knight Concert Hall stage on Friday, April 11 with over 200 singers and musicians to perform one of the most popular choral works of all time – Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. Hailed by The New York Times as “a choral masterpiece,” Carmina Burana’s primal rhythms and bawdy secular text has crossed over from the concert stage to hundreds of television commercials, video games and movies, including The Doors, Excalibur, and Natural Born Killers.

For this one-night-only performance, the Master Chorale of South Florida will be joined on stage by the Boca Raton Symphonia, Miami Children’s Chorus and guest soloists soprano Suzan Hanson, tenor John Duykers and baritone Donnie Ray Albert.

This performance is sponsored by Your South Florida Lexus Dealers.

Comprised of the finest classical singers in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach and led by artistic director and conductor Jo-Michael Scheibe, the Master Chorale of South Florida has thrilled audiences for five seasons with such beloved masterpieces as Brahms’ German Requiem, Vaughn-Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C minor, Schubert’s Mass in E-flat Major, the concert version of Verdi’s Il Trovatore, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with The Cleveland Orchestra.

Soprano Suzan Hanson is a frequent guest on the concert stage, performing lead roles in classical operas, concert repertoires and contemporary and standard musical theater. Her most recent appearances include the world premiere of Orpheus X for the American Repertory Theater, which was also featured at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2007, and Nixon in Nixon in China for Arena di Verona, Italy .

Tenor John Duykers is a frequent performer with symphony orchestras throughout the United States and has appeared with many of the leading opera companies of the world, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Frankfurt Opera, National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, to name a few.

Baritone Donnie Ray Albert regularly performs with opera companies throughout the world, including leading roles in I Pagliacci (Houston Grand Opera), Il Trovatore (Florentine Opera of Milwaukee), and Aida (Cincinnati Opera), and performances as the four villains villains in Les Contes d’Hoffman, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, and Frank in Die Tote Stadt with the Cologne Opera in Germany .

Tickets
Tickets for the Master Chorale of South Florida performance of Carmina Burana are $15-$55 and are available through the Adrienne Arsht Center box office at (305) 949-6722 or online at www.arshtcenter.org.

Groups of 15 or more receive discounts up to 50%. Contact (786) 468-2326.

The third annual Delray Beach Film Festival returns this year from May 6-11, 2008, leaner and more exciting than ever, bringing high-quality independent short and feature-length films and documentaries , panels and workshops, concerts, screenwriter and filmmaker contests, actors, celebrities, and parties, to the picturesque village by the sea.

Says Michael Posner, a 30-year resident of Delray Beach and Director of the DBFF, “This year’s film festival will be more intimate. We will keep everything in downtown Delray Beach , within walking distance of the Colony Hotel, 525 East Atlantic Avenue , our host hotel. All of the films will be screened on Atlantic Avenue , either at Old School Square , the Crest Theatre and our new venue, the Delray Beach Public Library. I want to attract more local people to come out and experience independent filmmaking at its best.”

The Delray Beach Film Festival is a true independent film festival that has stayed close to its roots and mission of making available original and independent films not ordinarily seen in mainstream movie theaters that typically showcase large, Hollywood budget studio films to the movie-going public.
