Arsht Center Volunteer Orientation
This orientation is required for all HOM volunteers interested in being ticket takers and/or ushers at Arsht Center for Performing Arts. At the orientation, volunteers will learn about the Arsht Center and the roles they will play as volunteers. The volunteer leader will also go over details of the project, benefits, and attire. Following this orientation, volunteer must attend an additional training session with the center. Performances for the month will be announced at the orientation. Training sessions and performances are not HOM projects. Project # 16

Veterans Housing
Rebuilding Together's Veterans Housing Initiative was created to meet the growing needs of veterans from past and present wars. The initiative serves to fill the gaps in housing modifications and repair services that retired and active service men and women struggle to meet. Working in partnership with corporate sponsors, Rebuilding Together's Veterans Housing Initiative strives to provide safe and accessible housing for all low-income veterans.
They are having a veterans event to paint 3 homes on the 13th of September and are in need of 45 volunteers willing to put in a half day of work on this rebuilding event. Rebuilding Together will provide materials, supplies and a house captain. 44,000 in Scholarships Awarded to Young Women Studying for IT degrees
ESI donates laptops and cases to ITWomen Scholarship Winners
On behalf of ITWomen, I’m pleased to announce we has awarded $44,000 for its 2008 College Scholarships to 11 South Florida women pursuing technology-related degrees. This year each scholarship winner also received a laptop computer and carrying case generously donated by Electronic Systems Inc. ( ESI). I have attached photos of our winners holding their packed laptops and scholarship certificates!
The Foundation awarded each of the following graduating seniors a $1000 four-year renewable scholarship:
• Yolanda Lopez of Miami (Miami Central High School), who will major in Computer Criminology at Florida State University.
• Debbie Lucien of Miami (Miami Central High School), who will major in Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University.
• Celenia Velasquez of Miami (Miami Central High School), who will major in Infor mation Systems /Computer Science at Miami Dade College.
• Maria Woods-Wells of Miami (Miami Central High School), who will major in Psychology/Information Technology at Barry University.
• Cristina Moreno of Miami (Coral Gables High School), who will major in Civil Engineering at University of Florida.
