One Day Can Make All the Difference!

What if you could boost your corporate citizenship and make a great contribution to your community-all in one day?

When you sponsor the 14th annual Hands On Miami Day on Saturday, November 3rd 2007 you can do both. Hands On Miami Day is our biggest day of community service and largest annual fundraiser, where thousands of volunteers work together to make the neighborhoods and citizens of Miami-Dade healthier and happier.
Your sponsorship of Hands On Miami Day will reverberate far longer than one day. Eighty-five cents of every dollar you contribute goes directly to year- round programming.

It will sustain 7,000+ volunteers who contribute more than 60,000 hours to over 400 community service organizations all year long.

That's a sound investment with solid results!

For more information on corporate sponsorship opportunites, contact CJ Ortuno at 305-646-7209 or CJ@handsonmiami.org.

Adopt a Classroom - Vote!

Adopt-A-Classroom (www.adoptaclassroom.org) has been selected by American Express to potentially win a donation of to $5 million. More than 7,000 projects were submitted, and Adopt-a-Classroom has made the Top 25. Would you please do me and the charity a favour, and take a couple of minutes to vote for her charity on the American Express Members Project website? It's at: http://www.membersproject.com/Education/183

The current round of voting would put them in the final 5. (If you voted once, you need to vote again for each new round of voting).
Adopt-a-Classroom raises money for public school teachers so they can buy desperately-needed supplies for their classrooms. The idea is pretty simple. Here in the richest country in the world, public school teachers spend on average over $1,200 a year of their own money on supplies and resources for their classrooms.
We all know that these folks are underpaid and many simply can't afford this. Adopt-a-Classroom allows donors to donate money to specific classrooms across the US and help bridge that gap. Adopt-A-Classroom raises money for underprivileged classrooms so that all children can have equal access to a quality education.
Here's how to do it:

1. You must be an American Express cardholder. Have your card handy.
2. Go to http://www.membersproject.com/Education/183
3. Click on “Vote for this Project” in the upper left
4. If you have logged on before, it will ask for your Login ID or
Password. If you have not logged on before, it will ask for you
American Express card number and ask you to register.

There is no donation required. Voting ends July 22!

If you would forward this email on, that would be doubly cool.

Thanks very much!

Here is their info, by the way:

Free Conscious Cinema Film Screening: When the Leeves Broke
As the world watched in horror, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on August 29, 2005. Like many who watched the unfolding drama on television news, director Spike Lee was shocked not only by the scale of the disaster, but by the slow, inept and disorganized response of the emergency and recovery effort. Lee was moved to document this modern American tragedy, a morality play witnessed by people all around the world. The result is WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE: A REQUIEM IN FOUR ACTS. The film is structured in four acts, each dealing with a different aspect of the events that preceded and followed Katrina's catastrophic passage through New Orleans.
Following the film on each night will be a hurricane preparedness course.

Disaster Relief

Hands on Miami is working hard to ensure that our city is prepared and ready should any hurricane come our way. This year, Hands on Miami's goal is for the county to have better coordination, collaboration, and cooperation. We are doing this through various programs aimed at preparing the county on all levels from Pre-Storm impact to the Post-Storm recovery effort.
If you would like to learn more about disaster-related programs, please contact Nathan@handsonmiami.org.

Volunteering - Chris Evert Children's Hospital

Chris Evert Children's Hospital in Fort Lauderdale

Chris Evert Children's Hospital is a children's hospital located inside of Broward General Medical Center. Inpatient units consist of a 50 bed general pediatric unit, a 12 bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and a 14 bed pediatric hematology/oncology unit.

Patients rely heavily on our volunteers, as well as the support from the community, for activities to break up the monotony of the hospital experience.

Volunteering would require just 2 hours of your time once of twice a month.
