Daily Candy- Miami - Choose Your Own Adventure
Restaurant Opens
This weekend is filled with tough choices. Rum or gin? Miami City Ballet or New World Symphony?
But the question of where to eat is simple: Prelude by Barton G. (inside the Arsht Center) opens tonight, letting diners pick any three dishes from its $39 prix fixe menu.
Choose seasonal fare from appetizers (tomato and watermelon salad, bacon and corn chowder), entrees (short ribs, wild salmon with asparagus), or infamous Barton G. desserts (a sundae with house-made cinnamon ice cream and roasted caramel apple slices).
Also on offer: a two-course lunch ($23), an enormous by-the-glass wine list (pours come in three sizes), and an a la carte bar menu. The high-ceilinged space woos with two chandeliers resembling incandescent jellyfish and slatted wood banquettes, where you can dine during one of five seatings between 5 and 10:30 p.m.
Your choice.
Prelude by Barton G., at the Adrienne Arsht Center, 1300 Biscayne Boulevard, Performing Arts District (305-357-7900 or preludebybartong.com).

Halloween at the Sunset Tavern
Bushmen Rock Halloween
Make sure you have the Sunset Tavern as part of your Halloween plans, The Bushmen will be rocking on the outdoor stage from 9-12 p.m. As you know, this is the one time of year when girls get to dress like strippers and not have to make excuses, so if you have your Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, Nurse, or whatever outfit, bring it.
Oh yes, and guys get to dress like dorks or like women - never understood the logic of it, but that's why I'm a rocker not a psych major. We'll be wearing our AC/DC, Winger, and Bon Jovi costumes.
Sunset Tavern
7230 SW 59th Ave. South Miami
The Brickell Irish Pub Loves THE BUSHMEN
Those of you who have seen our act recently know about The Bushmen difference - we rock hard, we sound great, and we leave all on stage. Last night we had the pleasure of once again energizing the crowd at the BIP, and we even got the City of Miami Chief of Police to shake his shoes. It appears Mr. John Timoney loves Tom Petty, so he couldn't help but shake it once we broke into American Girl. Mayor Manny Diaz seemed to be more into the newer stuff, but kept his composure - perhaps it was the pink tie.

OVERVIEW:
Trends in the Emerging Workforce - Understanding and Navigating the New World of Work
For more than a decade, Spherion® has been working with international polling firm, Harris Interactive, to track the social and economic changes shaping the American workforce. In Spherion’s latest Emerging Workforce® Study, they saw a continuing shift in traditional worker mindsets toward more emergent views. The study focuses on understanding the direction and thought process of employers and employees as it relates to expectations, current issues and changes in attitudes and beliefs in the workplace. The results of the study provide insights on factors driving employee satisfaction at each phase of the career lifecycle.
LORETTA A. PENN, President, Spherion Staffing Services, Spherion Corporation
Loretta Penn is president of Spherion Staffing Services, a division of Spherion Corporation (NYSE:SFN). Founded in 1946, Spherion® is the leading recruiting and staffing company that provides seamless, integrated solutions to meet the evolving needs of companies and job candidates through a strong commitment to service excellence. Employing 230,000 people annually through its network of approximately 650 offices, Spherion is one of North America’s largest employers. Penn was promoted to her current role in December 2008.
As president of Spherion Staffing Services, Penn leads the company’s largest business and is responsible for service delivery, sales and operations across hundreds of company-owned, licensed and franchised offices across the U.S. With 1,200+ recruiters, Spherion Staffing Services focuses on addressing client needs for direct hire and flexible workforce solutions for administrative, clerical, light industrial and call center positions.
Penn most recently served in an innovative role as Spherion’s chief service excellence officer, directly responsible to the CEO for advancing a culture of service excellence throughout the enterprise. Key elements included measuring and leading the drive to ensure high customer satisfaction; promoting best practices across the company; leading initiatives focused on candidate and client retention; ensuring Spherion’s position through effective marketing and public relations; and effectively communicating Spherion’s service excellence differentiation to clients and candidates.
Previously, Penn was vice president of national accounts where she managed some of Spherion’s largest client relationships. During her 18 years with the organization, she has also held field leadership positions in the commercial staffing business and was the executive in charge of Spherion’s legal staffing division.
Prior to joining Spherion, Penn spent nine years in the recruiting and staffing industry with Olsten Services and with Temporaries, Incorporated, where she served as vice president of East Coast operations. Penn was previously associated with IBM for 10 years in sales and marketing and regional executive management.
Penn holds a Bachelor of Science degree from North Texas University and a Certificate of Studies from Harvard University. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for TECO Energy and the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, a division of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
With 25 years of experience in the staffing industry and a keen understanding of the U.S. workforce and the issues that drive performance, Penn is a compelling and articulate speaker. She has shared the findings and implications of the Spherion Emerging Workforce® Study with numerous business groups. Conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion and reflecting a decade of research, the Study provides a comprehensive look at changes in the American workforce in the context of ongoing social and economic events.

NBC's roster of scripted series includes critically acclaimed comedies like Emmy winners The Office, starring Steve Carell, and 30 Rock, starring Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey; award-winning dramas including the Law & Order brand, Heroes, and Chuck; daytime drama Days of Our Lives; and the Saturday-morning Qubo block of programming for kids, including the award-winning 3-D animated series Veggie Tales.
Telemundo is a U.S. Spanish-language broadcast television network committed to broadcasting unique and outstanding national and local entertainment, news, and sports programming; Telemundo reaches 93% of U.S. Hispanic viewers through 16 owned-and-operated stations, 45 broadcast affiliates, and distribution to nearly 800 cable systems in more than 210 markets.
So as you can see, this is an amazing opportunity that should be taken advantage of by actors regardless of, age, sex, and type - as long as you are a bilingual and Spanish speaking actor.

Feeling Clammy?
8th Annual Hollywood Beach Clambake
By now you've probably noticed, we're surrounded by an, um, ocean full of water. Yet finding worthy wet places isn't always easy sailing, is it captain? Forget that sinking feeling, 'cause this Weekly Yelp dives in and comes up big on just where to make a splash in Miami!
It's hard to beat the views of the Great Big Blue from an island or two, so jump the Rickenbacker to Virgina Key and Key Biscayne. Don't forget to save that receipt, because it'll save you a buck at WetLab – and with their regular $2.25 and $3 prices on beers and drinkies, a Washington goes a long way. Head to the end of the Key to find beautiful Bill Baggs and the lighthouse, but for that ultimate drinking pleasure, park it at Boater's Grill in No Name Harbour. Remember Armando L's advice and keep an eye out for dolphins... and no, not Ricky Williams!
Think parks are all about green grass and fresh air? Blue Marlin inside Oleta River State Park is an old Florida throwback; Brandon R recommends "you sit outside on the side of the river with the wind blowing, but under a roof so you aren't baking in the sun." Eschel H enjoys the low-key vibe of Black Point Ocean Grill. "Nothing could be more casual, but the atmosphere is very cool, and the view of the marina is great." And if you've got a boat and plan on heading down to the Keys, he suggests "stopping by on your way to and/or on your way back!" Now, who's got a boat?
Miami Beach may be known for its Atlantic coastline, but it also has bay views to boast. For Janelle F "the best part about eating at the Miami Yacht Club is their outside seating. You are literally ten steps away from the water... it is super relaxing and really feels like you're 'getting away' for lunch." The Standard on the Venetian provides Marcos R with "the perfect spot to be during sunset." Sure the drinks are "a little spendy, but you gotta spoil yourself once in awhile," right? Speaking of the cost of luxe living, the Sunset Lounge inside the Mondrian sets a high bar, but Kelly O's here to tell us the lavish locale does not disappoint. Complete with a whimsical feel and sweeping views of the city, sky, and seas, as well as $16 cocktails, some views just might be worth the cost!

Miami - Speakeasy Does It
Speakeasy Does It
Bardot Speakeasy Opens
bardot!
You’ve been standing around all year wearing your flapper headband and sipping a classic cocktail — with no proper place to go.
But tomorrow Miami finally jumps on the speakeasy bandwagon with the opening of Bardot.
The lounge, designed for sophisticates and their artsy brethren, comes to you from Amir Ben-Zion, the gent behind faves like Bond St. and Sra. Martinez.
The hush-hush hipster spot has no address — instead dwelling behind an unmarked red awning in Wynwood (where else?). Before 9 p.m., Bardot serves nibbles both salty and sweet. But the main event is the entertainment: music, performance art, and burlesque along with screenings of cultural events like political debates.
Expect nostalgic decor like vintage sofas with faux fur throws, a Baldwin piano, and a library with an antique chessboard, backgammon, and an old-fashioned pool table.
Right on cue.
Bardot, 34th Street and North Miami Avenue, entrance in back alley, Wynwood (305-576-5570 or bardotmiami.com). Map It
