When 20-year old Vita leaves her native town of Guinea Bissau for Paris to finish her studies, she promises her mother not to sing. According to an old legend, any woman who dares to sing will be cursed fatally. In Paris, Vita falls in love with Pierre, a young musician - and sings – but now worries about the consequences of her act. Pierre marvels at her talent and encourages her to make a record. While the success is immediate, Vita grows even more concerned that her family should find out about her “fault”. This is a film about the conflict between cultural heritage and the pursuit of happiness. Whether you are a cinema aficionado or just like to se great films that the big theaters do not show, you want to se this masterpiece. It is produced in Cape Verde and France by Flora Gomes and stars Fatou N'Diaye as Vita and Jean-Christophe DollĂ© as Pierre. It features music by jazz musician Manu Dibongo; running time: 90 minutes.
