NEW! Critique Group
Fourteen sessions starting Monday, September 22-Monday, December 15, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
$70, MDC students and staff $40
Want to get together with other writers to discuss works-in-progress and the writing life? For the first time, the Center will offer writers a place to meet outside of the formal workshop environment. Share your work -- including novel chapters, memoirs, poems, essays, or song lyrics -- with peers, and learn and apply the rules of constructive criticism. This Center offering is not a traditional workshop, and writers should not expect to be taught skills to improve their writing.
Group Facilitator: Claudia Forestieri

Crafting Place Through Poetry
Eight Wednesdays, September 23-November 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$170, MDC students and staff $120
Though we will examine the work of published poets, the focus of this workshop will be the work of the participants who will be asked to generate poems (or revise old ones), which will be discussed in a supportive environment.
Instructor: Sandra M. Castillo

Storytelling for Social Impact
Eight Tuesdays, September 23-November 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$170, MDC students and staff $120
A well-crafted story can do more than entertain. Stories can shape policy debates, empower disenfranchised populations and spur its audience to action. This innovative course, co-taught by a psychotherapist and a journalist, will borrow from a variety of disciplines to teach students how to shape the elements of a true story for maximum effect.
Instructors: Gretchen Beesing and Dan Grech

Blog On!—Writing for the Web
Eight sessions beginning Thursday, September 25-Thursday, November 6, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$170, MDC students and staff $120
These days, a writer without a website or a blog is like a politician without a platform. Learn the technical aspects of launching a web presence, building content and marketing. By analyzing other successful sites as they build their own, students will acquire the tools to become cyber-savvy.
Instructor: Kemila Velan

Screenwriting
Eight Tuesdays, September 16-November 4, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
$170, MDC students and staff $120
This class is ideal for those with the desire to turn their idea for a script into reality. The curriculum will cover character development, dialogue, theme, and plot structure, with special emphasis on how to market scripts and break into the screenwriting business.
Instructor: Alberto Veloso

Advanced Fiction Workshop
Eight Wednesdays, September 17-November 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
$170, MDC students and staff $120
This class is intended for students who have taken at least one creative writing class and/or already have a work of fiction in progress. We will build on your foundation of narrative strategies through focused discussions of craft and form, and offer ideas and solutions for developing a work of fiction.
