NY Times best-selling author of at Temple Emanu-El, Feb. 25, 2009
For tickets: http://www.tesobe.org/events/TE&FIU.html
Marianne Williamson, internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher, will be speaking at Temple Emanuel, 1701 Washington Ave., Miami Beach, on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. The evening is sponsored by Florida International University's Program in the Study of Spirituality.
In times of transition, many voices emerge promising a way out of troubles. Some of these voices speak with an authenticity that echoes the wisdom of the ages. Marianne Williamson is one such voice. During this very special evening, Ms. Williamson, one of the world's most respected spiritual leaders, will discuss the basic principles of A Course in Miracles. According to Williamson's teaching, by becoming what the Course calls a Miracle Worker, one is able to transform one's life as well as the lives of others'.
Ms. Williamson has a uniquely hopeful perspective on this time in history, and works with her audience to delve deeply into uncovering the highest and best that's within them. Her approach to spirituality is universal, ecumenical and above all inspirational.
The evening is a fund raiser for FIU's Program in the Study of Spirituality. The Program's mission is to expand and explore the study of spirituality in all areas of FIU's curriculum. In addition to its unique Undergraduate Certificate in the Study of Spirituality, the Program offers lectures and seminars to the university and the community-at-large by leading spiritual teachers. Its major presenters have included H.H. the Dalai Lama, Arun Gandhi, Robert Thurman, Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, Gloria Estefan, Hans Kung, Jerry Jampolsky, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and many others. The Program's web site is http://spirituality.fiu.edu .
Ms. Williamson's work over the past two decades has opened the hearts and minds of millions of people with her simple teaching that spirituality affects all areas of everyone's life. In December 2006, she was named one of the 50 most influential baby boomers by Newsweek Magazine.
Five of Ms. Williamson's ten published books have been on the New York Times Bestseller List. Her first book, A Return to Love, is considered a must read among a generation of contemporary spiritual thinkers. Her latest book is The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife.
Ms. Williamson hosts a daily Course in Miracles radio program on Oprah and Friends network XM radio 156. She has been a popular guest on television programs such as Oprah, Larry King Live, Good Morning America, and Charlie Rose. Ms. Williamson's web site is www.marianne.com.
Her talk will feature both a question and answer session and book signing. Marianne Williamson has many, many fans in South Florida and tickets will sell out quickly.
The historic and beautiful Temple Emanu-El is the perfect setting for this evening of inspiration and enlightenment. For more information and to order tickets contact http://www.tesobe.org/events/TE&FIU.html
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $5 for FIU students with IDs. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds benefit to the Program in the Study of Spirituality.

Thanks for your help spreading the word. Read their story below.
As many of you know, we are moving in just 2 weeks. Unfortunately, I have still not been able to find a good home for
Cookie and Coco, both females, both are micro-chipped and are well-cared for. Family losing their home and
can¢t take these dogs to an apartment. Both are spayed and up-to-date on shots. They are life-long friends.
We're not able to take our beloved doggies with us and I've been desperately trying to find a home for both
of them 'together'. They were raised together and pine without each other. The Lab Rescue have already
said that they would probably separate them, so this is my last resort.
Recently I tried to take Coco out in my car alone and she TOTALLY refused to even get into the car without
Cookie.....!!!! She absolutely pulled back on her haunches until Cookie was by her side. Both doggies
are in great health, have been spayed and have ID chips implanted under the skin.
Cookie turned 3 December 10th and Coco will be 3 April 1st. Cookie is my mellow-yellow, and just loves
her tummy rubbed. Coco is adorably funny and lives for her "ball". She also loves the water..... Cookie
loves lots of attention. Both doggies are loyal and love to walk. They have been raised with my 3 kids
running around all over the place, and have survived Sammy's constant hugging and love of 'dress-up',
so they are fantastic family dogs. This is by far one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make,
but under the circumstances I have no choice.
Please, please forward these pics to all you know and help me find a great home for these fabulous doggies.
They are just adorable and it's heartbreaking to let them go. In a perfect world, I hope that we could find
someone local so that we can still keep in touch and visit them.
I pray that someone somewhere can help us keep Cookie and Coco together, and love them just as much as we do.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Yiya’s Bakery Opens
How do you get a permit to open an eatery in Miami? Make sure the mayor likes your pan con lechon.
Or so it went for Delsa Bernardo, whose tasty cheffery Manny Diaz experienced at the Upper East Side’s Green Market. Now politicians and nonpoliticians alike can try her Cubanesque concoctions at Yiya’s Bakery, which opened last month with nary a peep.
Chow down on Cuban sandwiches (with six-hour roasted pork and Dijon), chicken wraps, salads, and the like. Follow up with pastries: from strudel and guayaba (guava-filled dough) to tiramisu and coco y queso (look it up). The mom-and-pop shop even makes its own vinaigrette with herbs grown on the windowsill.
Stop in for lunch (it’s open only till 4 p.m.) and hunker down at a window seat with a copy of a local mag.
It’s a fine state of affairs.

Everyone knows that flapjacks and fruit go together like the Yankees and steroid use (sorry A-Roid!), so where do you go for that culinary combo? Follow Cynthia M to Buena Vista Bistro for "the best strawberry pancakes, ever. Crispy and fluffy at the same time, fresh tart fruit and syrup all striking the perfect balance of yumminess for a modest seven dollars." Whew! To satisfy her need for fruity-licious hotcakes, Michelle C heads to Wagon's West for their piping hot blueberry stacks. Torrey R takes this pairing one step further, washing his down with a mimosa or three on the patio at GreenStreet Cafe, where you can "enjoy the fresh air outside and watch the people walking around." What a way to start the day!
Prefer a twist on the traditional? Try a tall tower of gooness covered with cognac maple syrup at Clarke's and you'll see why it's become Jordan N's "favorite brunch spot in Miami." If you get bored easily, Icebox's ever-evolving menu features "a 'pancake of the day' everyday for breakfast." These divine takes on 'cakes are just perfect for Francina P, who gushes, "Their tres leches pancake is heaven on Earth!" And why wait 'til morning? Rob C warns the sweet soft-rolled pancake dessert at late-night favorite Yambo is not to be missed. While Karan S was just visiting our fair city, he managed to discover the flaming pancake (literally, on fire) at El Rey Del Chivito: "Lit up thanks to Bacardi 151, this is a very crunchy pancake with caramel, a hint of 151 and topped with ice cream." Talk about a hotcake!
If all this sticky sweet talk is givin' you a toothache, you can always opt for savory a la Eve C. She indulges in succulent scallops on mini pancakes, laid on a bed of lentils at Talula: "The whole flavor combination worked to form an amazing dish!" Or do like Martin O, who enjoys his griddlecakes German style, and scarfs down "delicious" crispy potato pancakes served with apple sauce and sour cream at Schnitzel House. Mmm, we gotta run now, that's our Aunt Jemima IM-ing!
What pancakes get you hot and bothered? Pour your heart out on Talk!

Daily Candy- Mamajuana Cafe
Medical Mamajuana
Mamajuana Cafe Opens
When you were a kid, your mom cured your colds with hot toddies. Today, you prevent sadness with scotch.
Stave off everything from sore throats to sterility at Coral Gables’s new Mamajuana Cafe, opening tomorrow.
Named after a rum-infused, herbal healing potion created by indigenous inhabitants of the Dominican Republic, the restaurant is the only local place that serves the feel-good brew. But there’s more on the menu than the enchanted elixir.
Spanish-influenced Nuevo Latino dishes like slow-roasted pork (puerquito) and brick-pressed Cornish hen (pollito al ladrillo) made the original NYC location a staple. At the Miami outpost — a rustic space done in Spanish Colonial style and dotted with Taino Indian statues — chef Ricardo Cardona recommends the exclusive-to-the-city boneless red snapper, served whole with coconut rice and enchilada sauce.
A surefire cure for the munchies.

LIBERTY CITY is a "Not-to-be-missed experience!" - The Miami Herald
FINAL WEEK!!
"Liberty City is a grand, not-to-be-missed experience!"
- The Miami Herald, Feb. 21, 2009
Liberty City
Now - March 1
Carnival Studio Theater
Laugh-out-loud funny, yet as gritty and thought provoking as the neighborhood that inspired it, Liberty City is a "definitive example of the solo show!" - Village Voice.
April Yvette Thompson knows Miami's Liberty City. It's where urban and island cultures rub up against each other, and it's where she grew up with her Bahamian/Cuban father and African-American mother. Now she brings to life that neighborhood as it was during her childhood - the turbulent 1970s and '80s, a time when hope and the possibility of change gave way to disillusionment and disintegration, and families struggled to stay together as their worlds were coming apart.
April tells us her life story with "scorching insight on how history both frees and chains us at the same time." - Variety.

House for Sale
y spas, art galleries, boutiques and eateries all around. Within a 15 minute drive, you can be in the Design District for Art Basel, on South Beach for nightlife, at Bal Harbor or Aventura for shopping, or at MIA (Miami International Airport). This is truly a great, centrally located home. Finally, my favorite part of the house location: at the end of newly palm-lined 69th Street is Bayside Park – great for dogs to run and play or for watching the boats cruise by on the bay.

Daily Candy- Spa Icon at Brickell
Double Dipping
The Spa at Icon Brickell Opens
You furtively dip out of parties (“Forgot something in the car!”) and excitedly dip into guacamole (“Look how many chips I can fit in my mouth!”).
New on the list: serenely dipping into one of the pools at The Spa at Icon Brickell.
The new spa’s stunning Water Lounge — giant yellow chandelier, floating couches, shelves of white books, a fireplace — is just the tip of the 28,000-square-foot iceberg. (You’d expect nothing less from designer Philippe Starck.)
Performed in oval-shaped rooms, the creative treatments range from the Masterpiece (a full-body exfoliation and facial) to Raindrop Therapy (an essential oil massage that stimulates the nervous system) and use medical-grade products like Valmont, a Swiss line filled with fancy science stuff.
There’s also a juice bar, a mani-pedi station, and a full-scale gym.
To transform you into the little dipper.
The Spa at Icon Brickell, 465 Brickell Avenue, Brickell (305-503-0369 or viceroymiami.com).
For some jolly good fashion, check out the London Fashion Week Dossier (and win gift bags, denim, and more).

Kao Kalia Yang’s memoir, The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir, begins in the 1970s, as the Hmong people were being massacred for their collaboration with the United States during the Vietnam War. Yang recalls the harrowing story of her family’s captivity in Laos, the daring rescue by her father and uncles, and eventual resettlement to the Ban Vinai Refugee Camp, where she was born. Her story continues in America, where she captures the challenges of adapting to a new place and language even as she recalls the dreams, wisdom, and traditions passed down by her beloved grandmother, whose spirit held the family together through all its travails.

Here's to a weekend of star-studded nights- BY LESLEY ABRAVANEL
And while mac 'n' cheese goes together like Laverne and Shirley, some say that opera mixed with soulful house beats may be an odd match. Not so, say the aural geniuses at the New World Symphony led by Michael Tilson Thomas. The Friends of the Symphony is throwing a party Saturday after the symphony performs the music of Charles Ives. Following the concert at the Lincoln Theatre, the hip friends group will move over to Blade at the Fontainebleau for hors d'oeuvres, Chopin cocktails and Rebeka Diaz singing sultry opera to the back beat of DJ Induce. Tickets are $75 for nonmembers and include the concert. Show starts at 7:30 and the party begins at 10. Call 305-673-3330 and ask for the Friends Package.
Finally, for those who use the word cinema instead of the movies, consider CineVisun and Transit Lounge's new Silver Screen Sundays, taking place every week at 7 p.m. with screenings on the lounge's patio as well as discussions with film directors. Also available, vodka specials, hot dogs, popcorn and candy. Admission is free. And for those aspiring Spielbergs, CineVisun is actually looking for movies to showcase on Sundays -- shorts, features, documentaries or animated works. If you've got more than a silly YouTube clip, contact or call 305-331-4896. First Transit Lounge, next Bobby Flay's Oscar party and then who knows?!

This charming two-story home offers even more than meets the eye.
• Two bedrooms - with walking closets • 1 ½ bath,
• Spacious kitchen • working fireplace
• Lots of closet and storage space • high ceilings
• Wood floors • alarm system
• Carport area holds two vehicles comfortably
This property is in one of Miami's most beautiful neighborhoods. It truly does not get any better than this quiet neighborhood in Miami. It is very close to the water and is conveniently located to local destinations. Minutes from Cocowalk (exactly 1.72 miles away), downtown Miami, and South Beach. (The access to U.S.1 and I-95 is what really makes the seclusion and extensive tree canopy of this neighborhood so special because although you are living in an urban environment it feels like the countryside or rural area.) This area, moreover, is very popular with cyclists, runners, and others using Kennedy Park, a five minute walk from Coacoochee.
First month, security deposit, and one year lease is required. Non-refundable application fee of $35.

DailyCandy Miami - Yummy in Your Tummy
Yummy in Your Tummy
Mr. Yum Restaurant Opens
mr. right!
You always go to Calle Ocho for the food — the miso soup, the spicy tuna rolls.
No, we haven’t lost it. We’re just excited about Mr. Yum. Little Havana’s newest addition serves Japanese and Thai fare in a candy canesque red and white eatery.
Despite ultra-modern appearances, most of the menu was handed down from owner Bond Trisransri’s family recipes, like his mother’s infamous Hangover Soup. Served as a complimentary starter, the hearty, vegetable-heavy dish is delightful (even when you’re not dehydrated).
Sushi options abound with traditional rolls, like dragon and volcano, and their interesting counterparts, like the aptly named Havana roll (hold the pulled pork; add lots of tempura whitefish).
And for dessert, there are typical Y-shaped Thai donuts and not-so-typical deep-fried Twinkies.
Both pair well with a cortadito.
Mr. Yum, 1945 Southwest 8th Street, Little Havana (786-360-2371).

Outta site, outta mind. Not on our watch? This town's got plenty of low-profile eateries that might not be fancy schmancy but should be on any good yelper's must try list.
"Great homemade quality served in no time, without breaking the bank." That description comes courtesy of Eddy A, as he explains his infatuation with Nunzio's. He goes on to say the Italian eatery "is one reason saving mom-and-pop restaurants is so important to foodies." Hans C, however, prefers to get Galician over at El Gallego: "The prices are fantastic (their beers are $2.50, imported go for $3), and the portions will make you fully understand why the Spaniards need siestas." If you're in the mood for a little romance, give Bistro Bisou a chance. The chocolate soufflé was so spectacular, it made Eddy D's knees rattle a bit – oh la la!
Channel your inner Tiger Woods and head straight to the 19th Hole at the Biltmore. This hole-in-one hole-in-the-wall serves up a view of the golf course, sand-wedges, and over 30 different brews from around the globe. Meanwhile, Fresco California Bistro was so inconspicuous, Meli D didn't stumble across this Californicated Italian/Mexican eatery until recently, even though it was in her very own 'hood! For Jennifer N, "good Vietnamese food ranks up there with oxygen," and she satisfies her need to breathe at Green Papaya, where a dynamic husband and wife duo team up as hostess and chef to provide that special feeling and "taste of home."
Cindy W shares "the best kept secret in Miami: Choice Café, an excellent Korean lunch spot." Now that she's shared, she deplores you to "ignore the hole-in-the-wall aspect, the sketchy neighborhood, and fill your maw with some excellent spiciness." Yes ma'am! Jeff G is also a fan of a lil' heat, and thusly visits Jamaica Kitchen for a hearty lunch of curry goat with rice and peas accompanied by a cold ginger beer ("nothing beats eating spicy food with a spicy drink!"). Finally, for "curry that avoids the fire-alarm spices," Joseluis A turns to the Jamaican-sensation otherwise known as Clive's; you can pick up goat, ox tail, or cow's foot. Even with an occasional visit from a certain Lenny Kravitz, it's just another example of Miami casual without the glitz, but with all the taste.

Chris Bohjalian
Wednesday, February 18, 2009 8 p.m.
Books & Books, 265 Aragon Avenue, Coral Gables
In January 1945, in the waning months of World War II, a small group of people begin the longest journey of their lives: an attempt to cross the remnants of the Third Reich, from Warsaw to the Rhine if necessary, to reach the British and American lines. Among the group is eighteen-year-old Anna Emmerich, the daughter of Prussian aristocrats. There is her lover, Callum Finella, a twenty-year-old Scottish prisoner of war who was brought from the stalag to her family’s farm as forced labor. And there is a twenty-six-year-old Wehrmacht corporal, who the pair know as Manfred–who is, in reality, Uri Singer, a Jew from Germany who managed to escape a train bound for Auschwitz. As they work their way west, they encounter a countryside ravaged by war. Their flight will test both Anna’s and Callum’s love, as well as their friendship with Manfred–assuming any of them even survive. Skillfully portraying the flesh and blood of history, Chris Bohjalian has crafted Skeletons at the Feast (Random House, $25), a rich tapestry that puts a face on one of the twentieth century’s greatest tragedies–while creating, perhaps, a masterpiece that will haunt readers for generations.
Presented in collaboration with Books & Books.

April Yvette Thompson knows Miami's Liberty City. It's where urban and island cultures rub up against each other, and it's where she grew up with her Bahamian/Cuban father and African-American mother. Super Size Your Sales
Smooth Sailing Success
Inspiring Leaders for Peak Performance February 12, 2009
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Super Size Your Sales
We are all sales people in some form or fashion. Whether it is selling someone on your favorite restaurant, movie or music – or selling your sweetie on a date, relationship or marriage – we are all selling all the time.
Why then do we get so hung up on marketing our products and services - and making sales? Why are there so many who struggle with sales and so few who seem to reach the highest levels of success?
Did you know that the difference between those who sell a little and those who sell a lot is usually a matter of degrees? Those who super size their sales simply make a few more calls, work a few more minutes each day, and focus a little more on their goals.
What if there was a way for you to make some shifts that would take your sales to the next level? What if there was a way to make selling easier and less stressful? Would you be interested in making some changes?
Jack, a young accountant, is a perfect example of someone who was not a super salesman but was willing to make some changes to grow his business. He and I began coaching together when he contacted me about expanding his portfolio. His objective was clear. He had been given a directive by his management – bring in a specific amount of business by year-end or he would no longer be needed.
Jack was ready to get to work. We began exactly as I do with all my clients, by dealing with the obstacles that were holding him back - things like clutter, papers that need to be filed or shredded, nagging financial pressures, and lack of work/life balance.
Next, Jack defined the goal he wanted to reach. He clarified the goal in specific detail including revenues, type of client, income, position, lifestyle and more.
Then he went to work on his pipeline. It was important for Jack to have a source of contacts for new business. He developed a list of potential clients and together we identified ways he could connect through professional and social networks.
Lastly, Jack and I developed a clear action plan that would keep the focus and attention on generating business even when he was busy and distracted with the myriad of daily activities. Most importantly, coaching gave Jack the accountability to stay focused and on track.
Are you ready to take your sales up a notch? Are you ready to do something differently to generate more sales and take your income to the next level? What will it take for you to reach – or exceed your goals? What if you were to set an outrageous sales goal that stretched your imagination toward new possibilities for yourself and your business?
Here are my top 4 tips to Super Size Your Sales:
1. Get clear on your goal. Until you have defined your goal in detail, it is just a wish. Get specific about what you want to accomplish. What is the end result? Is it a sales figure? An income or commission level? Think about what you want to achieve and write it down in detail.
2. Get your pipeline filled. If your goal is to close business and make sales, you will need to connect with many people. Filling your pipeline is a dynamic and continuous process. Become aware of people and opportunities to connect so that you are continually adding to your pipeline.
3. Get focused on your plan. How will you reach your goal? Without a clear plan of action, it will be difficult to stay focused and on track to move forward. Create a plan, get focused and do something every day for your dream.
4. Get an Accountability Partner. Ask someone to be your success partner to keep you accountable for reaching your goal. Find a mentor, buddy – or hire a coach - to guide, challenge and inspire you. Any journey is easier and more enjoyable when shared with a trusted partner.

Friends,
I am in the middle of shooting my next movie and I am looking for a few brave people who work on Wall Street or in the financial industry to come forward and share with me what they know. Based on those who have already contacted me, I believe there are a number of you who know "the real deal" about the abuses that have been happening. You have information that the American people need to hear. I am humbly asking you for a moment of courage, to be a hero and help me expose the biggest swindle in American history.
All correspondence with me will be kept confidential. Your identity will be protected and you will decide to what extent you wish to participate in telling the greatest crime story ever told.
The important thing here is for you to step up as an American and do your duty of shedding some light on this financial collapse. A few good people have already come forward, which leads me to believe there are many more of you out there who know what's going on. Here's your chance to let your fellow citizens in on the truth.
If you have any info that would help, please contact me at my private email address: bailout@michaelmoore.com.
For the rest of you on my email list who don't work in the financial industry, you're probably wondering, "What the heck is this all about? I thought he said he was making a romantic comedy!"
Well, I just can't say much right now. I'm sure you can understand why. One thing I can tell you is that you're gonna like this movie when I'm done with it. Oh, yeah...
So, again, if you work for a bank, a brokerage firm or an insurance company -- or if you have seen things or heard things that you believe the American people have a right to know -- please contact me at bailout@michaelmoore.com.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Yours,
Michael Moore

Valentine's Month at Uhma Spa
This time of the year always brings some fundamental questions: "Should we celebrate with champagne or chocolate?", "How to choose a meaningful gift?", "How to escape the sameness of every Valentines?".
Making people feel good is what we do every day at Uhma. Now there is even more reason to feel good, because our Valentine's packages and special are perfect: for a couple's time-out, to spend quality time with someone special, or for a good dose of bliss for a friend. Or maybe it is just the time to give yourself a present and a break!
How does a candle-lit room with rose petals, and complimentary champagne or organic chocolate sound to you? Reserve your Valentine's treat: (305) 695-0996.
You must mention Valentine's Month at Uhma at the time of scheduling to qualify for the gift certificate. At booking time you must choose champagne or chocolate.
Acupuncture now at Uhma Spa!
Cupid's arrows for the mind and body (tiny ones, too).
The idea of having needles sticking into your body may not sound like much fun, especially during Valentines time. That is, unless they pack the power of 2.000 years of Eastern healing wisdom.
The latest addition to our rich menu is great for those who need that extra relaxing boost and especially to get rid of a discomfort or pain. Acupuncture is the best answer in many cases to the need to balance, relax and heal your mind and body.
During the introductory period, we offer free evaluation sessions. Please call to schedule an evaluation.
Give your plants some love - with your cooking water.
The leftover water (salt free) from steaming veggies or boiling eggs is great for your plants. They love the nutrient-rich water, plus you are reusing - conserving - one of the world's most precious resources. Make sure you let it cool first.
