Good cause

Thanks for all the donations last month for Vitamin Angel Alliance. I was amazed at the number of responses and donations and inspired that so many of you actually took action.

This month’s charity is Take Stock In Children (www.takestockinchildren.com). For the past decade, Take Stock in Children has provided scholarships, mentors and hope to Florida's low-income, at-risk children. The goal of the program is to help break the cycle of poverty and help low-income children stay out of trouble, graduate from high school, attend college, and become productive citizens. The program provides mentors and a college scholarship for all kids in the program who stay off drugs, keep up good grades, stay out of trouble and graduate high school. I have been mentoring my student for 5 years now as he is a junior at Kropp Senior High School and wants to become an architect. It has been an incredible experience to watch him grow up. He will be the first in his family to go to college.

There are two ways to help out immediately. You can give money to support the program and the purchasing of scholarships at http://www.takestockinchildren.com/make_a_gift/ . I think the way to change the world is through children and this is an organization that I know first hand is making a difference.

You can also volunteer your time and become a mentor. http://www.takestockinchildren.com/become_a_mentor/ It only takes 1 hour per week and you can find a school in your area. You only meet on school grounds during school hours. It only takes 1 hour a week to be a role model for these kids to help them get to college. For those of you outside of Florida, unfortunately you can not mentor.

Thanks for helping make a difference,

Doug & Julie
