Who amongst us hasn't mumbled the phrase, "I'll never drink again" through the familiar haze of morning-after malaise? Sometimes, even the all-powerful trinity of water, ibuprofen and sleep aren't enough. Not to worry! This week we're holding your hair back and helping you get through those first few hours with some good old-fashioned hangover helpers.

Hydration is key to recovery. Of course, there are two schools of thought on this one: the healthy, juice-downing route... and the old hair-of-the-dog that maimed you. If you're going with the latter and you enjoy a buff Bloody Mary, then Balans has your sauce. Eve C savors her brunch while exclaiming, "They definitely make a strong Bloody Mary!" When only bubbly will suffice, Deli Lane's got your fix over in Brickell. Our local mimosa marauder Cynthia M sipped every last drop on her last visit: "It is possible to clean them out – my friends and I did once." Sounds like our kind of girl!

A lesser-known folk remedy is a hearty bowl of soup. Monserrate serves up Gustavo L's comforting cure: "Sancocho is always a good choice if you are nursing a hangover, it is like your mom's chicken soup on steroids." Mondongo, where the namesake doubles as the house specialty, provides a liquidy-quick, pick-me-up for that neccessary AM ammo. Their tripe soup comes with half an avocado, a banana and a mini-arepa. Caution: food coma may ensue post meal, take it from Joseluis A: "I finished the whole bowl and got sleepy."

Greasy food is always a life saver, especially when it feels like you just got run over by the Saturday-night booze express. Weekend survivor Marcos R takes refuge at Bagels & Co. "On any given Sunday, you might find me there nursing a hangover." For Doris L, it's Enriqueta's sloppy egg sandwich, fresh-squeezed orange juice and café con leche that "cures hangovers, soothes the soul and gives just enough of a protein pump and caffeine buzz." The only thing rivaling breakfast to ease your pain? Mexican food! Rachel M is grateful for Orale Taquería, as she claims, "It's exactly what I needed to ease my hangover and make me feel warm and fuzzy enough to lay in bed all afternoon." Buen provecho, yelpers!
