Feel free to pass it on!
Friends,
Here are a few photos I would like to share with you from one of the programs Developing Minds Foundation has sponsored. This school is located in Rocinha, one of Rio de Janeiro’s impoverished and violent favelas, or urban slums. To view a brief slideshow of the favela, the school and some pretty extraordinary kids, just click on the link below. It lasts about two minutes or so.

I also would like to share with you the deep gratitude and profound respect that kids, parents and entire communities have expressed to me. On occasions like the opening of a school, it is inspiring to see the exultation of children who live in a slum that is half a world away from many of the financial donors who made it possible. All the more impressive is that these two groups in all likelihood will never meet, yet recognize each other as connected and sharing in a common fate. To all contributors to Developing Minds Foundation, they thank you – and I congratulate you – for offering some of the poorest in Latin America a chance to lift themselves out of poverty.
As we continue with our work in Brazil and Colombia, if you or anyone you know is interested in joining our efforts by making a contribution, I invite you to contact me directly or go to our website under the Donations section. Dedicated to disciplined and business-like management of our supporters’ donations, Developing Minds Foundation applies almost 99% of contributions directly to school construction and the local operation of our education programs – one of the highest operations-to-administrative ratios in the philanthropic sector.
Best,
Philippe Houdard
