"Hang out" with the kids at Regis House, a program for teens who have become involved with the juvenile justice system. Activities include playing cards, games, and just having fun. If you'd like to be a role model for some great kids, this is your project! (2-6 volunteers) (project #10)

Operation No Fleas
Clean and bathe the adoptable dogs and puppies at the Miami-Dade Animal Services Department. Grubby from the streets, all these four-legged creatures need are tubs filled with water, soap, and bubbles. Help them look adorable and squeaky clean for their future pet owners. Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Restoration
Help prepare HVKPB for their grand opening! Activities involve selective exotic vegetation removal along the coastal dune line of the beach and/or work with the "newly developing" native plants. Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 10. (12-15 volunteers) (project #16)

Botanical Garden
The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a green oasis in the heart of South Beach. Bromeliads, orchids and tropical palms thrive, along with other exotic plants. Volunteers will help with gardening activities. Family- friendly: minimum age with an adult is 12. (8-15 volunteers) (project #26)

Pelican Harbor Clean Up

Nails at HHSB
The Hebrew Home of South Beach seniors enjoy our visit. Volunteers provide simple manicures and great conversation. This project is perfect for first time volunteers. Experienced volunteers are also welcome! Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 11. Spanish-speaking volunteers especially welcome. (3-6 volunteers) (project #39)

Carnival Center Volunteer Orientation
This orientation is required for all HOM volunteers interested in being ticket takers and/or ushers at the Flexible Program's Carnival Center for Performing Arts projects. At the orientation, volunteers will learn about the Carnival Center and the roles they will play as volunteers. The Volunteer Leader will go over details of the project, benefits, and attire. TeamWorks Great Decisions
Hands On Miami is participating as the only Great Decision group in South Florida. Join us for our LAST official Great Decisions TeamWorks' discussion group session. We will discuss HELPING THE WORLD'S ENDANGERED CHILDREN as well as watch the interactive Great Decisions DVD.

Housing Needed!
Hands On Miami is excited to welcome a new class of AmeriCorps members (our domestic Peace Corps) for the 2007-2008 service year. These dedicated individuals will help HOM further our goals of recruiting new volunteers, expanding our projects and making a difference in your community.
We have a few members that will need housing for the year, from August/September 2007 to August 2008. AmeriCorps members receive a yearly stipend of less than $20,000.
If you have an apartment, room or cottage to rent for a reasonable price, please contact Becky Custer, AmeriCorps Manager, at becky@handsonmiami.org. Please provide information on the location, details of the space and the asking rental price.

Historic Virginia Key Beach Park needs volunteers--spend a morning helping restore the beautiful grounds and participate in the Park and Shoreline Clean-Up! Please bring closed-toe shoes, hat, and work-clothes because you are guaranteed to get dirty!!!
