POSITION: Chief Marketing Officer or SVP/VP of Marketing (title depends upon
experience). This is a management position, but must have someone who will be
hands-on and can just roll up their sleeves and get the job done. Initially,
you will only have 3 people reporting to you so you will need to be able to do a
lot of things yourself. Also, you will need to be able to outsource some work
and build your team as required. Need to be savvy about how you spend your
budget, time, resources, etc. Need someone with excellent management,
interpersonal, leadership, communication and presentation skills.

COMPANY: Global Web 2.0 Application Infrastructure Software company. Company
has many "reference-able" Global 1000 clients with a focus on financial
services. Company has approximately 70 employees and has already closed two
rounds of funding with top VCs. Company has doubled revenues each year over the
last couple of years.

LOCATION: CEO prefers someone already living in the Washington DC area.
Working remotely is not an option. However, CEO is open to relocating the right
candidate. Frequent domestic and international travel will be required

COMPENSATION: Annual base salary will most likely be in the high 100s to low
200s DOE; plus bonus, stock options, etc. Plus, full benefits, 401k, etc. Board
is flexible and ready to put together the right package for the right candidate.
This is a key hire.

MANAGEMENT STYLE/CORPORATE CULTURE: This position will be the Company's top
marketing officer, reporting directly to the co-founder and CEO. As a key
member of the management team, you will actively participate in the important
decisions facing the Company. The CEO is very big on delegation. He believes
in hiring the best people, then providing them with clear incentives and
responsibilities. Focus is on results. He wants someone who knows how to work
effectively as part of a management team by building respect and trust.
Corporate culture is very laid-back, collegiate and multicultural. It is about
the team achieving results.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

-- Must have held a position within the last 12 months as a CMO, VP and/or
Director of Marketing at a company that falls into one of the following
categories: 1) the middleware space 2) the application server space 3) any SOA
service oriented space.

-- Must have someone that can hit the ground running. Must have someone with
significant marketing experience in any of the following categories: 1) the
middleware space 2) the application server space 3) any SOA service oriented
space. CEO is especially interested in candidates who are currently or
previously employed at any of the following companies (or competitors): BEA,
webMethods, Mercury, IBM WebSphere, SAP, Tibco, etc.

-- Must be a leader and manager, able to recruit first-rate talent---both as
employees and outside contractors---and tightly coordinate their efforts to
create exciting communications that lead to sales growth. Must be able to
manage/evaluate public relations agencies and supervise their work in conceiving
creative story angles. From refining the Company's positioning to
"wordsmithing" each piece of collateral, the VP Marketing must be "hands on" and
comfortable in a "do it yourself" small company environment.

-- Must be able to create messaging that is consistent worldwide, while
allowing for local market adjustments that help the company thrive in the
business culture of each market. The Company is already quite active in
overseas markets.

-- Must be able to shape and target compelling benefit statements for each
audience that are seamlessly integrated into a coherent and compelling overall
message. The Company serves several vertical markets (financial services,
government, healthcare and logistics) and delivers distinct business benefits to
an array of functional teams within each corporate customer,

-- Must be able to outline at least one example of how you successfully built
"buzz" around a brand that was virtually unknown when you started working on it.
The new VP will benefit from the fact that the Company's team is stable and
mature, with capable management in product development, customer support, sales,
and finance. The new VP will also "have plenty to work with," thanks to an
excellent product that generates quantifiable results for major customers who
are pleased to provide references. Nonetheless, the new VP will have to start
almost from scratch when it comes to building up the marketing image and
presence of the brand in its several marketplaces.

-- Must have a proven track record of hitting your numbers. Prefer someone who
has helped a company grow significantly in revenues within a relatively short
period of time. The challenge confronting the new VP Marketing is clear. Plenty
of high-tech companies are "all sizzle and no steak." This Company, by
contrast, is "all steak and no sizzle." The role of the VP Marketing, simply
put, will be to generate sizzle that's as enticing as the Company's steak. This
means executing marketing communications programs that will help boost lead
generation, grow the sales pipeline, shorten the sales cycle, and raise the
close rate. Achieving these tangible results will require creative marketing
strategies and programs.

-- Must be able to personally deliver outstanding presentations at key meetings
and business conferences. Must have experience developing brand collateral
materials, speeches, PowerPoint presentations and all other support materials,
online and offline, geared toward the needs of specific opportunities and
audiences. Must be eager and able to build crisp, compelling presentations for
a variety of audiences.

-- Must be extraordinarily skilled in all aspects of communications. Must have
experience writing/editing and disseminating news releases, background materials
and all other communication to the media. During the interview process, you may
be asked to provide writing samples of documents that you helped create. MUST
have someone who is fanatical about details and making certain that everything
going out the door is perfect.

-- Must enjoy the entrepreneurial atmosphere of a small company, but also have
experience of scaling up an enterprise to significant organization size and
revenues. Experience working in a dynamic (i.e. "startup") environment is
preferred as well as a successful track record building a product from early
adoption through market share leadership. The new Marketing VP must have the
capacity to help drive the growth of the organization as it scales to revenues
of $20M and beyond over the next several years.

-- Strong communications background and business acumen are required. Looking
for candidates that are strategic, tactical and results focused.
