"The Love of Three Oranges"
September 20 - October 14

This beloved comedy, inspired by Prokofiev's Opera, has now been adapted for children. Appropriate for ages 6 and up, this story of the play follows a young prince, cursed by a wicked witch and forced to voyage into distant lands in search of three oranges, each of which contains a princess. By Carlos Gozzi, adaptation by Stephanie Ansin. PlayGround Theatre performances of "The Love of Three Oranges" begin Thursday, September 20 and run through Sunday, October 14. See full schedule. Opening Reception for Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons

Meet Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons and preview the first touring mid-career survey of one of the most influential Afro-Cuban artists of our time. Her show, "Everything is Separated by Water," features approximately 17 major works that include mixed media installations and large-format Polaroid photographs. This body of work spans 15 years (1990-2005), and explores the artist's ancestral displacement from Africa, her self-imposed exile from Cuba, and her experience as an Afro-Cuban woman living in North America. The reception also features a live performance by the artist Dry Eyes Wet Feet/Ojos Secos Pies Mojados. Bring a blue ribbon to the opening reception and contribute to the artist's live presentation. Last Day for Tamayo: A Modern Icon Reinterpreted

Sundays are free at Miami Art Museum so take this opportunity to see the current exhibition, "Tamayo: A Modern Icon Reinterpreted." There's a docent-guided tour at 2 p.m. to lead you through MAM's exhibition of acclaimed Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991). This is the first major US exhibition in nearly 30 years and features paintings from private and institutional collections from all over the world, including some that have not been on public view for decades. "The Garden Party"

STOMP!

Explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appealing to audiences of all ages - that's STOMP! The 8-member international percussion sensation uses everything but conventional percussion instruments - like matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters - to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. Annual Season Kick-Off

Get a sneak peak at the 2007-08 season, "A Year of Art & History" at the Historical Museum's annual kick-off party. Celebrate the opening of "Rob Storter: Art of the Everglades," original drawings and three-dimensional carvings by the famed folk artist and fisherman. A member of Everglades City's founding families, Storter's work documents pioneer life. There will be food, drinks and entertainment at the Museum's kick-off event. Opening of "A Place to Call Home"

September 28 from 7 to 10 p.m.

The concept of "home," a place of attachment and identity or the loss of home or homelessness, is the subject of this exhibit that runs through October 12. It's co-presented by Arts at St. Johns and Rhythmic Raptures as part of an arts intervention program called H.E.A.L. View the exhibit free of charge Mon-Thurs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fri 10 to 7. In addition to the visual arts, a film documentary will be shown on October 5, and a panel discussion and closing reception is on October 12. View more information.

Jazz at MOCA

Jazz at MOCA headlines pianist Mike Gerber, a mainstay in the South Florida jazz community for over 30 years. Gerber, a classically trained jazz pianist, is known for his outstanding technique and masterful musicality. He's admired for his flourishing improvisations and lyrical handling of complex pieces. On the jazz scene since the early 70's, Gerber recently appeared at the Van Dyke Café and Arturo Sandoval's Club. Jazz at MOCA is a monthly free outdoor concert held on the front plaza of the Museum. On these special Friday nights MOCA galleries stay open till 10 p.m. so visitors may tour the current exhibition, "Karen Kilimnik." Jazz at MOCA is sponsored by Starbucks Coffee Company and the City of North Miami.

Gala Opening Night: Frost Symphony Orchester with Gabriela Montero

Festival Miami kicks off its 24th season with world renowned pianist Gabriela Montero who joins the Frost Symphony Orchestra with conductor Thomas Sleeper. The program features Sergei Rachmaninoff's passionate Piano Concerto No. 2, Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 and the world premiere of Lansing McLoskey's Chanson pour cordes. Presented in collaboration with the Miami Civic Music Assn., and sponsored by Adrienne Arsht and TotalBank. Tickets range from $60 to $15.
