Breakfast & "Going Green" Panel Discussion

Tuesday, June 17 at 8:30 a.m.

The greening of our environment, community and businesses is the topic that will be discussed by a knowledgeable panel hosted by the Women's Chamber of Commerce, the Miami Beach Chamber, Miami Beach Botanical Garden, Starbucks Coffee and Thierry Catering. Cheryl Jacobs of Zyscovich Architects is the moderator, and the panel includes Laura Craven, Dade Paper; Amber Zimmerman, Tsao DesignGroup; Linda McGlathery, The Garden Project; Kiki Mutis, Citizens for a Better South Florida; Kylie Brooke Hicken, Granite Transformations; and Jane Gilbert, Dream in Green. The event is open to all and free. No pre-registration is required.

Passing the Baton of Leadership & Success

Wednesday, June 18 from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

The Urban League of Broward County Young Professionals Network celebrate Juneteenth, African-American Emancipation Day, by hosting a panel discussion about how Broward's youth is being prepared to take the role of leadership. Panel includes: Marsha Ellison, NAACP; Dr. Germaine Smith-Baugh, Urban League of Broward County; Dr. Willie Myles, Friends of Children; Dennis Wright, 100 Black Men of Greater Ft. Lauderdale; and Philippe Jean-Bart Black, Youth Vote Advisory Board. Guests will also hear from Rep. Joe Gibbons and Willowstine Lawson from U.S. Senator Bill Nelson's Office. On a lighter note, there will be special performances by Devin T. Robinson X, widely known for his appearances on BET's Rap it Up Tour.

Charla Krupp Book Signing


Author, and fashion, beauty and lifestyle guru, Charla Krupp, made a special appearance at Village of Merrick Park to celebrate her New York Times Best Selling new book, “How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better.” The book draws on Charla’s years of experience as a top beauty and fashion magazine editor and style expert on NBC’s TODAY.







"Luxury and the Internet"

The Luxury Marketing Council Miami welcomes noted Internet marketing expert Jessica Kizorek, partner in Two Parrot Productions and author of "Show Me," for an informative talk about the Internet and how it is effectively being used by luxury marketers. Learn about Internet strategies currently in effect by top brands. Hosted by Ricardo Acevedo, GM, Four Seasons Hotel Miami, the reception begins at 6 p.m., and the program runs from 6:30 to 8. Legends for Charity South Florida Wine Soiree

Thursday, June 19 at 6 p.m.

National and local sports personalities will team up for the inaugural Legends for Charity South Florida Wine Soiree benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Guests will enjoy a wide array of wines, delicious hors d'oeuvres, silent auction and live music. South Florida media personality and "voice of the Dolphins" Jimmy Cefalo will serve as the Honorary Chair of the event, and legendary South Florida television anchor Tony Segreto of NBC6 will be the Master of Ceremonies. Special guests include Greg Gumbel of CBS Sports, Miami Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano and the 2008 Miami Dolphins rookie class, including first round draft pick Jake Long. Legends for Charity events afford players, coaches and owners the ability to become part of a nationwide program culminating with the national program during Super Bowl Weekend. Theater Benefit

Family Counseling Services of Greater Miami is hosting an evening of theatre to benefit the support and counseling services they provide to improve the lives of our community's children and their families. See Conor McPherson's "Shining City," a haunting and finely wrought tale about a businessman who claims to have seen the ghost of his wife who was killed in a car crash. He seeks help from a therapist who is wrestling with his own demons. Their encounter becomes a struggle that will shape and define both men for the rest of their lives. A pre-performance reception at the Coral Gables Congregational Church (3010 DeSoto Boulevard) kicks off the festivities. Reception at 6 p.m. and performance begins at 8. Tickets are $50 and $75.

OffShore Powerboat Challenge Weekend

Friday - Sunday, June 20 - 22

The City of Sunny Isles Beach will host the inaugural "Offshore Powerboat Challenge Weekend," presented by the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association. It will be an action-packed weekend, complete with a race village set up in scenic Haulover Park where all non-racing activities will be headquartered. Join fans from all over the US as offshore powerboat race teams race right in front of you along the beach. Schedule includes a run to Bimini and back on Friday, and racing and testing from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday on the open ocean race course. View the action along the public beach for free, or from one of the VIP viewing areas or Racer's Village for $20 and from just Racer's Village for $10. Got your own boat? Take it out to the spectator line for prime viewing.

3rd Annual Summer Sunset Social

"Mediterranean Night" is the theme of this year's Summer Sunset Social hosted by Benefactors Advancing Covenant House (BACH), a group of business professionals who support the programs of Covenant House Florida. An Evening in St. Tropez

Madam Sherry's Brunch

Battle of the Chefs

Join Downtown Coral Gables and La Cuisine for Battle of the Chefs 2008 to benefit the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. This culinary challenge pits two high profile Gables' chefs who have just 45 minutes to produce three dishes using a bag of "mystery" ingredients provided by The Fresh Market. The competition is judged on taste, originality and presentation, and guests watch the entire process, socialize and enjoy light refreshments. Admission is complimentary, but a donation of $15 is encouraged.

Miami Heart Gallery

Through June 29

The Children's Trust Miami Heart Gallery is a traveling, museum-quality exhibit featuring portraits of children in Miami-Dade's foster care system who are available for adoption. The portraits, taken by some of the world's top photographers, capture the unique personality of more than 70 children. The photographers, including Nigel Barker, best known as one of the judges and celebrity photographers on the hit show "America's Next Top Model," all donated their time to the project. According to state records, more than 500 children residing in Miami-Dade are eligible for adoption. The exhibition is open Weds - Suns from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
