Seven Points of Mind Training

Clearly, the buzzword for 2009 is 'change'. Fortunately for Miami, that means the 305 is teeming with new restaurants, just waiting to be yelped. Loosen that belt buckle and join us this week for an appetizing roundup on the hottest and freshest eats in town.

With drink names like Shiso Fly and Shiso Horny, shiny new Shiso promises a bit of sass and fun. Dim lighting, attractive art, and cozy details (like tiny bonsai trees) make Kim H feel right at home. As for the food... how does "black truffle edamame so good I wanted to lick the bowl" sound? That's what we thought. Mr. Yum is also making quite a splash, especially for Lina R, whose salmon, tuna and hamachi melted in her mouth. She sums it with some sage advice: "I highly suggest getting here before the rest of Miami finds out about this hidden gem!"

Find Ken D feasting on Argentine empanadas, homemade pastas, and gourmet thin-crust pizzas at Midtown's nouveau, boho-chic cafe Moriano. Over in Wynwood, look for Andrew J indulging in the dolce e picante pizza with figs, honey, gorgonzola and hot red pepper at at Joey's. Paired with the sexy setting, open kitchen, and a few glasses of wine, it's no wonder he's already planning his return trip.

Curry up and head downtown for a taste of newly-opened Thai Churo. Larry D raves about this simple spot's appe-thai-zing dishes at recession-friendly prices (lunch under $10!) and Bryan S has already dubbed it "the best Thai food in Miami." He might want to reconsider, though, as up-and-coming contender Atchana's East West Kitchen in the Mutiny Hotel will soon be vying for that very title; coming from the same family that brought you Siam Lotus House, it certainly promises to be thai-no-mite!

And closing out our issue is the swanky Area 31 inside the Epic Hotel. Dine poolside on Mediterranean-style seafood or take advantage of daily, complimentary wine happy hour on the sixteenth floor, surrounded by skyscrapers at Biscayne Bay. The breathtaking view has already made Theodore H a convert: "Look out LVL 25! There's a new kid in town... and they've got a bigger balcony."

Tony C. on Brasa Nova Grill
"Fantastic restaurant! Just recently opened it's doors (hasn't had it's grand opening yet though). Delicious food, beautiful decor, and very good prices.

If they keep the service and quality as it has been the two or three times I've gone, I see no reason why they can't continue their success here in…"

Bertha G. on Cane Fire Grille
"I am so excited to say, this is not your typical hotel restaurant!!! The hotel has been completely renovated, so when you walk in to the lobby, you will think you are in a cool South Beach location.

The restaurant / bar is located in the hotel lobby, very hip colors, lots of plasma TVs throughout…"

Ramon C. on Metro Bistro
"Metro Bistro is a nice addition to the MiMo district. They feature a mostly organic/grass-fed menu. Today I had the delight of having the their burger which is made of Ground Grass-Fed Filet Mingnon and its served with french fries. I added a slice of Fontina cheese to experience something different…"
