Burgers have gone gourmet, pizzas are being truffled, and of course there's the cupcake craze... yet sometimes nothing is more comforting than a fresh spin on veggies and healthy, organic eats. This week we're growing it locally, saving the meat for later, and dishing out restaurants that serve it up lean, mean, and green.
Denise F's been officially converted, thanks to "refreshing exposure to the awesome-quality health food" at Om Garden, like the falafel sandwich and mesculin salad with carrot-ginger dressing. "It certainly makes my body and soul much happier than an Egg McMuffin ever could." Take that, Ronald! Likewise, Effie C keeps it veggielicious thanks to Green Gables. "Their vegan dishes are to die for and really make me wonder how we have grown to depend so much on animal products when there are so many tantalizing vegan options out there." We agree, Effie – all hail seitan!
Some people assume you've got to spend the green to go green. Fortunately, Sabrina L knows better after lunching at Prana. She had the "eggplant lasagna (and it was delicious), the butternut squash soup and a banana-strawberry juice, all for $9." Now that's what we call a value meal! In Miami Lakes, Harvest Moon is a health-conscious hidden gem. Jamie C doesn't "know anyone that she's taken there that hasn't become a regular – it's addicting." No intervention needed for that one, folks! For a twist on the usual veggie options try Essential Apothecary, a Native American tea house with a wide menu. Danny F noshed on the pizza served with olive oil and herbs. Native-Italian-American fusion, eh?
On the other side of town, Jordan N assures, "A great variety of affordable vegetarian food is hard to find in Miami, but Sara's Kosher Pizza does everything right. You can have Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern, and American (pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads), so there's always something" new to try. Meanwhile, after partying hard and working harder on South Beach, Jorge R knows a solid meal at Juice and Java is "the perfect way to detox from all that Miami debauchery." Well that's one fun way to work up an appetite!
