We are conducting an executive search for a Chief Technology Officer & Head of Product Development (title depends upon experience) for a new media company headquartered on the East Coast. Company is well-funded and has significant resources. Company has invented a new media product that is in extremely high demand. Currently, the company only has U.S. manufacturers. Position will be responsible for IT, Manufacturing, and R&D. This is senior management position reporting directly to the CEO. However, you will only have a small team reporting to you initially. Board is willing to relocate the right candidate or you could just work in office approximately 4 days a week, then fly home. But, working remotely is not an option. COMPENSATION: Board is willing and able to put together the right package for the right candidate. The focus is on hiring the best candidate. This is a key position, reporting directly to the CEO. Compensation includes base, bonus, stock options, 401k and full benefits package. MANAGEMENT STYLE/CORPORATE CULTURE: This position reports to the CEO. He will only hire someone who is a team player and does not need to be micromanaged. Basically, he prefers to agree to a set of objectives making sure that the objectives are clearly outlined and understood by the individual, then let the individual execute the plan. But, expects the individual to keep him informed of progress. Individual must be able to go to the CEO when in need of help. He will only hire someone that is very entrepreneurial and passionate with a burning hunger for success; someone with a vision. He wants people with new ideas and strong opinions, but able to move in a fast paced, ever-changing start up environment. He needs someone that can hit the ground running. Corporate culture is very team oriented and results focused. There is open communication and exchange of new ideas. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: -- Must have held a position as Chief Technology Officer and/or Head of Product Development (or equivalent) within the last two years at a company that manufactured electronics. -- Must have experience in manufacturing electronics (devices, circuit boards, screens, etc.) overseas-ideally in the Far East. Experience working with companies like Samsung, Sony, LP, etc is a plus. Currently, the company only has U.S. manufacturers. -- Must have experience in putting manufacturing deals together: signing up new manufacturers, working with manufacturers to reduce costs, sourcing, etc. Must have a proven track record of managing product development projects within timeframe, budget, and scope is required. -- Some travel domestically and overseas will be required. -- Must be able to look at the market place, look at company's existing patents. Need to figure out which patent claims to pursue first and what additional patents need to be filed. Basically, need a strategist to help define the product direction for the company. -- Must have previous success putting together co-branding deals with companies like Microsoft, Sony, Google, Apple, etc. -- Must have BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent experience. Masters a plus. CEO is more focused on hiring someone who is very smart, gifted and innovative. Someone who has the ability to just make things happen even in areas where you might not already have experience. -- The CTO/Head of Product Development will be responsible for IT, Manufacturing, and R&D. Candidates must have previous experience managing these functions and a small, growing team. Prefer someone that can bring some people on board that you have worked with previously. MUST have someone who can build a top grade technology team. Someone who can ensure that the team has the best possible talent (A players) at each level. Structure comp & incentive plans. Coach and keep top talent and remove non-performers efficiently. -- Prefer candidates with small and large company experience. However, Candidates MUST have gone through the high growth and scalability issues of a startup or high growth stage company. Need someone who enjoys the entrepreneurial atmosphere of a small company, but has been through the experience of scaling up an enterprise to significant organization size and revenues. Experience working in a dynamic (i.e. "startup") environment is preferred as well as a successful track record building a product from early adoption through market share leadership.
