Inner Circle of Twelve Luncheon

Thursday, February 21 at 11:30 a.m.

The American Cancer Society will honor twelve outstanding community leaders at its Inner Circle of Twelve Luncheon and Fashion Show. The honorees are: Trish Bell, Paula Brockway, Brenda Nestor Castellano, Jane Cundy, Fanny Dascal, Swanee DiMare, Silvia Fortun, Monica Heftler, Anne McDougal, Laura De Oña Suarez, Suzie Sayfie and Mary Anne Shula. Cocktails are served at 11:30, followed by lunch and the best of the Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour 2008 Collection at noon. Chairing the event are Remedios Diaz Oliver, James Murphy, Dorothy St. Jean and Lilliam Machado.

Marian Center’s Annual Luncheon and Fashion Show

Nearly 300 friends and supporters of the Marian Center Auxiliary attended their at the JW Marriott Hotel on February 8. The event, featuring a runway fashion show and shopping boutique by Key Biscayne’s FiftyRio, was chaired by Jeanne Del Vecchio. Proceeds from the luncheon benefit the Marian Center School & Services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Founded in 1964, the school is true to its mission to provide each student with the ability to reach his or her full potential.

Special Olympics Area 11 Summer Games

Volunteers - especially huggers and supporters - are needed at the Special Olympic games. Do yourself a favor and come out and root for these special young athletes who take their competition very seriously! This track meet is fully sanctioned and has over 600 competitors. It is sponsored by North Miami Beach Optimist Club in memory of David L. Singer. For helping, you will receive a commemorative T-shirt and lunch, and for students, community service hours.

Run for Darfur

Saturday, February 24 at 8:30 a.m.

Mast Academy students Chloe Hans, Marissa Salas, Cossette Joy, Giovanna Salucci, Brynn Katzen and Delfina Vizzoco seek your help for a project that is important to them. The girls are organizing a 5K and 1-mile run/walk to raise awareness and funds for the victims of Darfur. The run is open to all age groups, but the committee hopes for the support of fellow high school students. The race course takes you around Granada Golf Course and ends with a post-run celebration with entertainment and refreshments. Entry fee includes a specially designed T-shirt for the event - adults are $20 before February 10 and $25 afterwards; students and children are $15. All of the funds raised go to support the work of Africa Action and the Genocide Intervention Network.

Oscar Night America in Miami

WPLG-Local 10 and Hotel Victor South Beach present the official Oscar Night America in Miami to benefit Miami Beach Film Society's Cinematheque. Red carpet arrivals for the 80th Annual Academy Awards begin at 6:30 as guests enjoy cocktails at the Hotel Victor. The Oscar telecast live from Hollywood begins at 8:30 hosted locally by WPLG's Laurie Jennings who will lead the bidding for extravagant live auction items. Event tickets are $125 and $150 and include cocktails, sumptuous hors d'oeuvres and the official Academy Awards program.
