Apt avail

Traveling to Asia next month and wanted to offer my Miami apartment for rent while I'm gone (to friends or friends of friends) after all - an empty Miami Beach waterfront condo in the middle of the winter is a terrible thing to waste :)

Feel free to pass this around to friends that might be interested....Thanks!

South Beach Luxury Condo For Rent - One Month
While I am traveling I am subletting a furnished one bedroom condo with direct water views at The Yacht Club Portofino building in the South of Fifth area. The condo is private, clean, nicely furnished and fully equipped. Each room and the balcony have direct bay water views over Miami Beach Marina, Fisher Island and Downtown Sunset Views (see attached pics).
The apartment is available four weeks from 2/19-3/17 for just $3,000 including utilities. The apartment has a queen size bed and a queen sofa bed so it can comfortably accommodate up to four people. Washer and dryer are in the unit and the apt comes with a beach cruiser bicycle.
This is a full service doorman building with swimming pool, hot tub, tennis, BBQ area, valet parking, gym and is located South of Fifth -- quick walking distance to nice places to eat and of course the beach.

Come down on weekends or stay for the entire month!
Please email Michael at MichaelAGlickman @ yahoo.com if interested.
Thank you,

The Passion of Amos GITAI (Feb 02, 21, 23)

with support of the Israeli Consulate and the Israeli House

Amos Gitai is Israel's most famous and critically acclaimed filmmaker. He was born

in Haifa in 1950, and studied architecture at Haifa, then Berkeley. Esther,

his first feature film, was presented at Cannes in 1986 and won the first prize at

the Turin Film Festival. From 1992 he has devoted his time to passionate and

intense theatrical features, which have represented the best of Israeli filmmaking.

02 SAT 8:30pm: The Passion of Amos GITAI

Kadosh (Sacred) (1999)

With Yaël Abecassis, Yoram Hattab, Meital Barda.

Set in the Mea Sherim quarter of Jerusalem, an enclave of the ultra-Orthodox,

Kadosh explores a hermetic world almost never seen on the screen. Here, for

ten years, the pious Rivka (Yael Abecassis) has devoted herself to her husband

Meir (Yoram Hattab), but their marriage remains childless. Presumed barren,

she is rejected by her community, which prizes children above all else. The story

that follows relates the harrowing fate of Rivka, and also her beloved sister

Malka (Meital Barda), in love with a young man who has fled the community

to lead a secular life. A huge box office hit in Europe, acclaimed at film festivals

in Cannes, Toronto, New Delhi and Tokyo, Kadosh is both a powerful drama

and an impassioned feminist polemic. As religious fundamentalism achieves new

political significance in many countries around the world, the questions at the

heart of Gitai's compelling drama resonate far beyond the borders of Israel.

Hebrew with English subtitles.

WINNER: National Board of Review Freedom of Spirit Award

British Independent Film Awards Best Foreign Film

"The best Israeli film ever! Luminous...A fine film." - Richard Corliss, Time

07 THU 8:30pm: The Passion of Amos GITAI

Kippur (2000)

With Liron Levo, Tomer Russo, Uri Klauzner.

From the director of Kadosh, an official selection at the Cannes, New York and

Toronto Film Festivals, Kippur focuses on the presence of the human spirit in battle.

It is a gut-wrenching journey through beautiful landscapes ravaged by gunfire,

exploding mines, fear and desolation. The film takes place in 1973 during the Yom

Kippur War, in which Egypt and Syria launched attacks in Sinai and the Golan

Heights. Although the story is told from the perspective of Israeli soldiers, the film

is far from being an exercise in propaganda. We are led by Weinraub (Liron Levo)

and his friend Ruso (Tomer Ruso) on a day that begins with quiet city streets, but

ends with death, destruction and devastation of both body and mind. It is not a

traditional "blood, guts and glory" war film. There are no men in battle, only the

rescue crews trying to pick up the broken pieces. Kippur is the shell-shocked memoir

of the director Gitai, himself a participant in the conflict, and of the days that changed

his life forever. Hebrew w/English subtitles.

WINNER: Cannes Film Festival François Chalais Award,

Award of the Israeli Film Academy

"Confirms Gitai as the finest filmmaker Israel has ever produced."

- David Sterritt, Christian Science Monitor"

14 THU 8:30pm: Valentine’s Day!

Join the Romantic Film Festival and MBC on Valentine’s Day

for a Great American Silent Comedy Romance!

Presented with the romantic film festival: “Romance In a Can”

Girl Shy (1924/USA/Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor)

With Harold Lloyd and Jobyna Ralstan

The other major “silent clown” of the Golden Age of American silent comedies

(besides Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, and the lesser known Harry Langdon)

is the masterful, athletic, goofishly handsome “All American” Harold Lloyd.

His films of the 1920’s are rollicking and fast paced, always with romance as an

important part of the mix. Harold Meadows (Lloyd) is a shy, stuttering bachelor

working in a tailor shop, who is writing a guide book for other bashful young men,

"The Secret of Making Love," chapters from which are portrayed as fantasy sequences.

Fate has him meet rich girl Mary (Ralston), and they fall in love. But she is about to

wed an already married man, so our hero embarks upon a hair-raising daredevil

ride to prevent the wedding.

With a reception following the film, featuring an aphrodisiac wine

tasting by ZEN ZEN WINES complimented by chocolates

courtesy of CHOCOLATE Restaurant (next to MBC, for dinner

reservations before or after the film call 786 237-0748),

and a LIVE performance by cellist Andres Vera!

Syndromes and a Century (Apichatpong Weerasethakul/Thailand/2007)

INDIEWIRE: “Best Film of the Year 2007” . . ."Syndromes and a Century"

It must sound insufferably pretentious and difficult to the uninitiated: we see two doctors,

a man and a woman, meet in a rural hospital and then go about their daily lives; halfway

through the film, we watch their initial meeting again, except the setting has changed to

something modern, sleek, and urban. Scenes, images, and characters from the first half

of the film continue to recur in its second half, more as echoes than mirror images.

"Syndromes and a Century," like Thai master Apichatpong Weerasethakul's last film,

"Tropical Malady," is a half-told love story twice told. But if it sounds like a movie only

a critic could love, it plays like something entirely different -- funny, light on its feet, and

delicately human. More a journey for the heart and the senses than a puzzle for the head,

"Syndromes" demands that we let go of our need for everything in a movie to make sense

and surrender ourselves to its sublime, mysterious beauty. In return, this strange and

astonishing art work offers nothing less than the most joyful, rapturous moviegoing

experience of the year.”

OFFICIAL SELECTION: Venice, New York, Toronto, London, Vancouver,

Chicago, and Tokyo Film Festivals.

Help free the Thai Cinema! Syndromes and a Century was CENSORED by the

Thai Government, so it can not play in its home country. Please help filmmakers in

Thailand by signing the petition HERE concerning the unjust treatment they have received.

For more information visit the director’s MYSPACE page, and read his statement below:

“I, a filmmaker, treat my works as my own sons or my daughters. When I conceived them,

they have their own lives to live. I don't mind if people are fond of them, or despise them,

as long as I created them with my best intentions and efforts. If these offspring of mine

cannot live in their own country for whatever reasons, let them be free. Since there are

other places that warmly welcome them as who they are, there is no reason to mutilate

them from the fear of the system, or from greed. Otherwise there is no reason for one to

continue making art.”—Apichatpong Weerasethakul

script formatting. We will touch briefly on the business of screenwriting and how to register

and copyright your script, and touch on the steps involved in moving your script into production.

dialog, description, proper script format, and new topics such as exposition and screenplay

treatments. "Hands-on" writing assignments combine with lecture material. Additionally, we

will analyze an award-winning short film to understand what makes a good script work. In that

analysis, you will get a brief introduction to cinematic techniques—as they relate to story and

to your writing. We will discuss the business of screenwriting and the steps involved in moving

your script into production in more depth, as well as discuss the avenues of film festivals,

markets and screenplay competitions. Prerequisite: Workshop #1, basic screenwriting

knowledge, or confidence to jump right in.

Killer Of Sheep (Charles Burnett/1977/released 2007)

Killer of Sheep examines the black Los Angeles ghetto of Watts in the mid-1970s

through the eyes of Stan, a sensitive dreamer who is growing detached and numb

from the psychic toll of working at a slaughterhouse. Killer of Sheep was shot on

location in Watts in a series of weekends on a budget of less than $10,000. Finished

in 1977 and shown sporadically, its reputation grew and grew until it won a prize at

the 1981 Berlin International Film Festival. Since then, it was declared it a national

treasure as one of the first fifty on the National Film Registry and the National Society

of Film Critics selected it as one of the "100 Essential Films" of all time. However,

due to the expense of the music rights, the film was never shown theatrically or made

available on video. It has only been seen on poor quality 16mm prints at few and far

between museum and festival showings. Now, thirty years after its debut, it has been

brilliantly restored. Milestone's premiere of the restored Killer of Sheep was at the

2007 Berlinale Film Festival and its first USA theatrical release began this year.

The Passion of Amos GITAI

Yom Yom (Day After Day) (1998)

With Moshe Ivgy, Hanna Meron, Juliano Mer.

In Yom Yom, the second film in Amos Gitai's celebrated "City Trilogy," Israel's

preeminent writer-director weaves, "a darkly comic tale of characters driven by

divided loyalties and neurotic inhibitions" (The Village Voice) in the mixed

nationality Mediterranean port city of Haifa. In spite of blood ties to both Haifa's

Jewish and Arab populations, Moshe (Ivgy) leads a rootless existence. Moshe

becomes entangled in the hidden connections between friend, wife, lover, parent,

Arab and Jew. Underneath its deadpan surface, Yom Yom is a film of incisiveness

and energy that places an individual face on a city's divided identity, and reveals

the heart beneath anonymous modern ennui. Hebrew with English subtitles.

WINNER: Jerusalem Film Festival Best Israili Screenplay, Wolgin Award

"Lighted by...sparks of formal bravado that recall the old radicalism of the

French New Wave." - A. O. Scott, The New York Times

23 SAT 8:30pm: The Passion of Amos GITAI

Alila (2003)

With Yaël Abecassis, Hana Laszlo, Uri Klauzner.

Amos Gitai’s Alila intertwines the stories of over

a dozen distinct characters who inhabit an apartment complex located in a rundown

neighborhood of Tel Aviv. Holocaust survivor Schwartz (Yosef Carmon) has enjoyed

a peaceful existence living in his small apartment with Linda (Lyn Shiao Zamir), a

young Filipino who comes regularly to give him medication and company. One of the

many obtrusive men audible to Schwartz is Hezi (Amos Lavie). He recently rented one

of the nearby apartments in the building for a secret rendezvous with a beautiful and

self-deprecating woman named Gabi (Yael Abelcassis). Their intense, unequal and

often-violent love affair turns Gabi’s life into a public and dissonant garble of

psychological pain and physical pleasure.

Hebrew with English subtitles.

Official Selection: Venice Film Festival, Award of the Israeli Academy

"An engaging subtly arresting drama. Captures the rhythms of the

community with humor and humane spirit." - Time Out

With Gitai’s short film from:

11’09”01 – September 11 (2003)

Eleven directors, eleven films, one story.

Eleven of the world’s best modern directors including Amos Gitai were gathered

together by French producer Alain Brigand to each present a short film about 9/11.

The only artistic restraint was that each film’s length must be exactly eleven

minutes, nine seconds, plus one frame. The result of the collection is world cinema’s

unique and varied response to the tragic event.

WINNER: UNESCO and FIPRESCI Awards at the Venice Film Festival

Christian Louboutin at Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour February 2 2008

This Saturday, February 2nd, “The Man of Sole” Takes On Miami
Christian Louboutin at Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour

They call him “the man of sole.” The current “it” man of fashion’s luxury shoe empire. On February 2, 2008, the French shoe guru Christian Louboutin will grace the MIA for one day only with a very rare and special appearance at Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour. The occasion: the U.S. premier showing and signing of the entire Spring 2008 Collection.

In honor of the designer, Saks Fifth Avenue Bal Harbour will host a buzzy afternoon soirée which promises to bring a touch of the designer’s native Paris to the floor. Guests may indulge in the finer things of life, from Veuve Cliquot and French Macaroons, mingling with fellow fashionistas, to of course immersing themselves in a world of Louboutin and seizing the opportunity to have newly purchased pairs of Christian Louboutin’s autographed by the designer himself.

The Christian Louboutin line encompasses a wide assortment of styles including espadrilles, sandals, boots, pumps and evening shoes ranging from 0 to 4" inclines. There is a right fit to empower any individual.

Coined by the flawlessly lacquered red soles, striking stiletto heels, and exquisite designs, a pair of Christian Louboutins give the ability for every woman to feel confident, impossibly feminine, and glamorous. The designer’s fan base encompasses an international audience of the social world’s most well regarded and elegant women, ranging from royalties and celebrities to socialites and fashion mavens.

The story of Mr. Louboutin is fascinating. His affinity to style and women began at the earliest age, and escalated during his teenage years when he frequented The Palace, the legendary nexus of nightlife that attracted the most glamorous and infamous of Paris. As he progressed through his adolescence, Louboutin’s attention focused less on academics and more consumed by his fervent passion for showgirls, dancing, and theatrics. At 16 he began propositioning music hall performers with sales of his first designs.

Fruitful years have followed. Throughout his career, Louboutin worked alongside the top in the industry including Charles Jordan at Romans, and the iconic Roger Vivier at Christian Dior. He has freelanced for the most renowned haute couture houses: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent and Maud Frison. In 1992, the designer solidified his mark in history with the launch of the first ever Christian Louboutin boutique in Paris. From the merchandise, to the ambiance, to the clientele that frequented the establishment, it was witty, elegant and of the highest quality. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, it is the craze that women around the world cannot seem to get enough of, and a look that imposters have quickly tried to emulate without comparable success. Whatever the trend of the moment may be, the versatility, creativity and sophistication of the brand ensures that Christian Louboutin will not be leaving the fashion radar anytime soon. An investment in Louboutin is an investment of a lifetime.

Florida primary news

A Significant Victory: By a nearly 17 point margin, Hillary won the highest turnout Democratic primary in Florida history. More than 1.5 million Democrats voted -- more than cast votes in Iowa, Nevada, South Carolina, and New Hampshire combined. "Hillary's victory... gives her the bragging rights that come with winning the biggest, most diverse state to vote so far."

Broad Support: Hillary won voters who decided on Election Day; women and men; urban, suburban and rural voters; and just about every income group, education level and age category -- including 18-29 year-olds. Hillary won nearly 6 in 10 Latinos and nearly 3 in 10 African Americas.

Did You Know? Hillary received more votes in Florida than Sen. McCain, the winner of the Republican primary. Hillary also received more votes in Florida alone that Sen. Obama received in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina combined.

In Case You Missed It: Florida Sen. Bill Nelson became the latest Senator to endorse, bringing Hillary's total to 11. "Too many Americans have been invisible to their own government. In this primary, some even tried to silence our state. Hillary will never let that happen," said Sen. Nelson.

Jennifer Nardozzi, Psy.D.. presents:
Awakening the Silent Soul: Treating Eating Disorders from the Inside Out

The field of eating disorders is a relatively new field of psychology study and research. Over the course of the last several years, several paradigms and ways to conceptualize eating disorders have been introduced, including the use of spirituality as a means to treat eating disorders. There appears to be a high correlation between spirituality and better health outcomes in a variety of medical and mental health problems (Koenig, McCullough, and Larson, 2001). Research and literature appears to support incorporating spirituality into the treatment process as an effective means of aiding in the healing process. This presentation will help practitioners begin to conceptualize eating disorders as a “hunger of the soul”. Both didactic information and also experiential exercises will be incorporated throughout the workshop to provide ideas and new ways of treating eating disorders.

This professional training will teach the following 3 Behavioral Objectives:
- Participants will be able to conceptualize eating disorders from a spiritual paradigm
- Participants will learn 3 new coping skills for their clients from a spiritual perspective
- Participants will learn about research that supports and validates utilizing spirituality in the treatment of eating disorders
