RSVP to davidandrew04 @ gmail.com . Don't miss what promises to be one of the best Algonquin dinners of 2008.

The Venue

Canela Cafe

(305) 756-3930
Parking available in the front and side of Canela

The Food

Canela Cafe was recently featured on the Hungry Detective show on Food Network, and was listed in the New Times Miami Best of 2006 (Best Cuban Restaurant). See http://canelamiami.com/ for these and other reviews.

The Crowd

Meet new and interesting Algonquinners at every event as our mailing list continues to grow. Plus, our friends at Next In Line ( http://www.nextinline.biz/) will be joining us for this special dinner.

The Menu

* Appetizers (shared) -- tortilla de papa (Spanish potato and onions omelet); garbanzo fritas (chick peas in light tomato sauce with Spanish sausage); ham croquetas; papa aioli (garlic potato salad); and olives.

* Entrees (choose one) -- paella (vegetarian or chicken); churrasco steak; or tilapia (grilled or breaded). The latter two entrees will be accompanied with grilled asparagus and salad. French fries will be served family style. NOTE -- for those of you who would like the paella entree, which is a house specialty and is delicious, please include such choice in your RSVP (and indicate whether you want veggie or chicken). The paella takes at least 45 minutes to prepare, and we thus need an exact head-count of the paella people. Thank you.

* Dessert (shared) -- flan; Balcarce (meringue) cake; and fruit salad.

The Damage

$40, which includes red and white sangria (pitchers of which will be available at your table), or one beer, glass of wine, ice tea, or soda with dinner; 3-course meal; tax; and gratuity. CASH ONLY -- PLEASE BRING CASH.

Drink specials will include beer $4, wine $4 glass and $15 bottle. Please pay any additional drinks separately.

The Conversation

The topic of conversation this week is: what "soul" would Miami have today if the Cubans and other Latinos/Hispanics had not immigrated here starting in the 60s?
