World Flight Adventure Gala
Saturday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
Celebrate the amazing round-the-world flight with Florida Memorial University senior Barrington Irving, the youngest person and the first of African descent to ever to fly solo around the globe. This Jamaica-born young man found his passion for flying at age 15, spending free time doing odd jobs at the airport to pay for flying lessons. Over time he earned his private, commercial and flight instructor licenses and instrument rating, readying him for his famous world flight. The aircraft he used was assembled by airplane manufacturer Columbia after Barrington got all the components donated by various manufacturers. The celebratory dinner will benefit the nonprofit he founded in 2005, Experience Aviation, Inc., which guides and encourages youth pursuing careers in aviation and aerospace. Tickets are $125 and $60 for students with valid ID.
