"Barks and Books"

Wednesday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m.

Sociable dogs and their masters and mistresses are invited to join Camillus House Young Leaders and PetNet for an evening of literary mingling under the stars. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Browse the bookshelves - for 20% of any purchases made during the evening will benefit the two charities. A dog is not necessary to attend, but if you do bring your pet, please keep them leashed and behaving to ensure a good time for all. Admission is $20 at the door.

Golden Angels Dinner and Chanel Fashion Show

Jackson Memorial Foundation's Golden Angels Recognition Society presents an elegant evening of cocktails, dining and fashion in the midst of a private airplane hangar. A first for Miami! 6th Annual "Wine on Harvest Moon"

The golden light of the "harvest moon" sets the stage for the Deering Estate Foundation's sixth annual wine tasting event. Embrace Charles Deering's love and appreciation for fine wines, fine food and the fine arts as you journey through the historic Richmond Cottage, Carriage House and Stone House with a special tasting in Deering's wine cellar. Savor the fine wines from America's great northwest and delicious delicacies prepared by a choice group of Miami's top chefs, and enjoy art exhibitions "Out of Eden," a collaboration with the Bakehouse Art Complex, and "The Colors of Wine" and musical performances featuring the Florida Classical Orchestra. Pisco Montesierpe Benefit for Peru

Friday, September 28, 8 to 11 p.m.

Moved by the 8.0 earthquake in Peru, Pisco Montesierpe and the Kuyayky Foundation have joined forces to raise money for "Un Techo Para Mi Pais," an organization dedicated to building and rebuilding communities and improving the quality of life in poverty-stricken areas of Latin America. The quake killed at least 540 people with nearly 80,000 suffering from the impact through the loss of loved ones or destroyed homes. This event will raise funds specifically for the town of Chincha where 50% of the area crumbled to the ground. . Join in this all-community effort and help tens of thousands of people affected by the quake. Cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, traditional Peruvian music and entertainment. Fabulous silent auction includes items donated by Romero Britto, Spirit Airlines, Doral Golf Resort & Spa, to name a few. Tickets are $50 on-line and $70 at the door (cash only, please). The James Beard Foundation's Taste America

September 28 – 29

Joining other cities across the nation, Miami hosts The James Beard Foundation's Taste America with two exciting events. On Friday a group of top toques headed by host chef Clay Conley of Azul (pictured) host cocktails and a 4-course dinner with a pairing of fine Italian wines. The group includes two James Beard Award-winning chefs, Mark Militello and Norman Van Aken, along with South Florida's rising star chefs. Dinner is limited to 100 and costs $240 p/p, all inclusive, with a portion going to charity. On Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Williams-Sonoma hosts Clay Conley, Norman Van Aken and Gabriele Marewski of Paradise Farms for cooking demos. There will also be culinary-oriented children's activities offered throughout the day.

Hollywood Beach Clambake

September 28 – 30

Savor a sumptuous South Florida feast of fresh clams, oysters, shrimp, fish, lobster, conch and crab cakes up and down the Broadwalk throughout the weekend. Festival vendors and local restaurants will present their hottest seafood recipes and coolest drink concoctions for hungry revelers at the Hollywood Beach Clambake. There will be nonstop live music on two stages, including Grammy-winning Indie-Rock icons Soul Asylum, Detroit power-pop group The Romantics, New Orleans favorites Porter Batiste Stoltz of the Funky Meters, and trombone brass band Bonerama. World Music Sunday features Marijah & the Reggae All-Stars, Latin jazz veterans Oriente, and Grammy nominated Cuban dance band Conjunto Progreso. It's a festival for the whole family with a classic car show, a sand-sculpting exhibition, the annual Best Chowder Contest and eco-friendly arts & crafts for the kids.
