e-incubator events November 9-16

As we’d mentioned before, in celebration of 10th anniversary, our Telemundo Talks event (October’s breakast) was so successful that we are having another Talk at Telemundo shortly after Thanksgiving and would like to know if there are subjects in particular you’d like covered. We’ll “poll the audience” and see if we can accommodate you as best we can. Please let us know if you are interested.

We hope you enjoyed the fabulous Sleepless Night of this past weekend and are happy to list some interesting events coming up soon. There are also some job opportunities listed so check them out!

Have a good one.

CARNIVAL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS ANNOUNCES

TARGET GLOBALBEAT –

MIAMI’S FREE MULTICULTURAL MUSIC GATHERING

Second Saturdays at Carnival Center

Global performances and activities outdoors on the

Thomson Plaza for the Arts

Starting Nov. 10

Carnival Center proudly announces Target Globalbeat – a new series of FREE multicultural music gatherings at Carnival Center on the second Saturdays of each month. Beginning November 10 and continuing every second Saturday through April 2008, Target Globalbeat – sponsored by Target – are fun-filled afternoons that include concerts by South Florida-based artists from around the world, colorful parades, strolling street performers, hands-on performance workshops, a kids corner with interactive learning activities and delectable food from a featured local eatery.

Inspired by the huge success of what was arguably the most popular event of Carnival Center’s grand opening weekend in 2006, the new Target Globalbeat series will take over the Center’s outdoor Parker and Vann Thomson Plaza for the Arts from 3 – 7 p.m. on November 10 and December 8, 2007, and January 12, February 9, March 8, and April 12, 2008. Everyone is invited to celebrate South Florida’s rich cultures, and no tickets or reservations are needed.

On November 10, the first Target Globalbeat of the new series offers a dynamic selection of some of the biggest hits from last year's event with exciting new additions from Miami’s diverse pool of talent. The lineup includes hypnotic Japanese taiko drumming by Fushu Daiko, Colombia’s most danceable coastal music performed by La Gran Banda, the Caribbean carnival energy of Rara Lakay, and an Afro-Uruguayan candombe parade led by drumming ensemble Lonja y Madera. The Lee Boys top off the magical afternoon, inviting audiences to groove into the twilight hour with their nationally acclaimed, steel guitar-driven gospel sounds.

To complement the performances, Target Globalbeat will offer a variety of family activities that explore national pastimes and cultural traditions from around the world, including a Calypso sing-a-long, Osle (Haitian jacks) game stations, and flag-coloring activities. Cuban nibbles from Tinta y Café will be available for purchase.

Target Globalbeat on November 10 rounds out a day of world music presented by the Center, which also includes a matinee and evening performance of the Haitian-and-hip-hop-flavored play Refugee in the Studio Theater and the rambunctious Caribbean music celebration Calypso @ Dirty Jim’s in the Knight Concert Hall. Events are scheduled so that guests who crave a day-long world music experience can stay all day at Target Globalbeat or make it a stop before or after enjoying a performance in the Center’s theaters.
