FRIENDS OF NEW WORLD SYMPHONY TO
HOST “BASEL BUNGALOW BASH”
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, 9:00 P.M. AT
CATALINA HOTEL,
PRESENTED BY HONORARY CHAIRS
DIANE AND ALAN LIEBERMAN
MIAMI BEACH -- Friends of New World Symphony, the award-winning patron support group of the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy (NWS), will host a “Basel Bungalow Bash” Friday, December 7, 9:00 P.M., on the rooftop of the Catalina Hotel (1732 Collins Avenue). The soiree, hosted by honorary Chairs Diane and Alan Lieberman, will feature plush bungalows, cocktails compliments of Chopin Vodka and cuisine compliments of The Catalina Hotel’s Kung Fu Chus.
The evening’s performance will include an eclectic, international mix of music, starting with a “Blue-Grass String Trio” of New World Fellows showcasing classical elegance with a funky flare. Following the Blue-Grass performance, world-renowned Haitian artist Bélo will sing (along with NWS Fellows accompanying him) in Creole about how music can create a peaceful revolution and inspire hope. This part of the show will also feature his video, along with lyrics translated to English. The Finale will feature an Electronic Fusion with DJ, JJ Neil spinning sexy-house grooves while NWS “Funk it Up”, Electric-Style. Imagine a high-energy beat with live layers of electric violin, cello, electric bass, drums, trombone and more.
Murat Jean Belony - aka Bélo - was born in Croix-des-Bouquets, a city eight miles to the north-east of Haiti's capital, Port-Au-Prince, on 29 October 1979. In a country where music is omnipresent in daily life (merengue, compas, zouk and carnival-style rara being just a few of the most widely listened-to style), Bélo soaked up various influences. The talented young singer, songwriter and composer attracted a major youth following, teenage music fans identifying with his powerful songs criticizing general living conditions in Haiti and calling for national unity.
Four guest artists will be featured, to truly marry Music and Art at the Basel Bungalow Bash. A multimedia art performance enlisting New World Symphony Fellows and acclaimed visual artist Carson Case will take place at 10:00 P.M. Case’s performance art is an erotically-charged, visceral expression interpreting music through dance and wildly inspiring painting. She combines detailed planning with spontaneity and chance to produce a finished product that is unique and powerfully intuitive, using recycled glass sheets with leaves, sea grass, seaweed and fabric as her canvas.
International Artist Tomas Loewy takes pictures that tell a story, have a meaning and speak for something and also themselves. He has a love for moments, time lapse and detail. Loewy will showcase his collection via projections upon the walls, along with photography of international Art events including Burning Man. Loewy will also debut a walkway of eight to ten of his ArtTables, themed "art for/in daily use.”
Visual Artist, Alissa Christine channels the true essence of beauty through her work and draws inspiration from the pure and simple joys of life. Alissa’s personal artwork carries many forms. She combines her talents to create pieces that include painting, lighting and photography. Creation for Alissa Christine is experiential and experimental, and the evolution continues. Her light shows will be extraordinary and colorful, especially under the Stars.
Hip, downtown designer, Nazly Villamizar, creates sophisticated one of a kind leather hand bags. Mixing calf’s leather with horns and bones, her pieces are a true work of art. Nazly has partnered with renowned South Florida artist LEBO, who is most recognized for his vibrant graffiti-like murals and exaggerated comic-esque characters. Combining LEBO’s repertoire of colorful cartoon images and Nazly’s funky mod-shaped handbags, the two artists worked together to produce creative head-turning styles that are bold, unique and fun.
Fine Arts and Environmental Photographer Tara Thompson will showcase work that documents stories within our communities and the ways in which people create a sense of place through connections to landscapes. Her philosophy helps connect with the coast as a place of recreation, livelihood, or simply as a place of solace. Tara wants to make photographs that tell stories, ask questions, and remind us that we are all connected in the subtle rhythms of everyday life. She believes a strong image has the power to move us beyond ourselves and into another moment, becoming a catalyst for change.”
