Young Professionals Against Childhood Cancer

Friday, December 14 at 5 p.m.

Join other young professionals who support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and are interested in making a mark in the community. The Miami Chapter of Friends of St. Jude, a group of young professionals ages 22 to 40, is hosting a get together for hors d'oeuvres, compliments of Grimpa, and free Caipirinhas and beer. Meet and network with others who are seeking a social outlet and volunteer opportunities to help fight childhood cancer. A drawing will be held for one lucky guest to win a one-year executive membership at the Sports Club LA, valued at $3,580. Must be present to win! Membership in the organization is $25 for the year. Nutcracker Holiday Brunch & Performance

Saturday, December 15 at 11 a.m.

Join Miami City Ballet's new "Nutcracker Family" for an elegant brunch just in time to attend the 2 p.m. performance at Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. A holiday favorite, Miami City Ballet's spectacular production of George Balanchine's The Nutcracker, is a treat for the whole family! Enjoy a cast of over 100 dancers, incredible sets and costumes and the magical music of Tchaikovsky. See talented kids from Miami City Ballet School dancing alongside the Company's internationally acclaimed dancers. Performances are Friday (12/14) at 7:30, and Saturday and Sunday (12/15-16) at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance only range from $19.75 to $63. Brunch and performance cost from $65 to $125. The brunch was arranged by Lourdes Castillo de la Pena, Giovanna D'Agostini, Marina Figeroa, Maite Koffler, Rosemery Medina, Sandra Morales, Monica Nishi, Beatrice Rabassa, Rebecca Rodriquez and Rona Witek, a group organized to raise funds for MCB School's Student Scholarship Fund.

36th Annual Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade

Saturday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m.

The Winterfest Boat Parade with Grand Marshal Lorraine Bracco inaugurates its new parade route beginning at the Broward Center on the New River at 6:30 p.m. The Parade route continues East to the Intracoastal Waterway and then North along the original route to Lake Santa Barbara. This year's theme is "Magical Movie Moments." More than 100 boats will participate, and judging will be at the host hotel, The Riverside Hotel. Best seats on land to view the parade are inside Birch State Park at Sunrise Boulevard and the Intracoastal. Gates open at 3 p.m., and all seats are assigned and reserved. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids 10 and younger.

NIDEA! Stand Up Comedy of Julian Arango

Saturday, December 15 at 8 p.m.

Conexion Colombia and Give to Colombia have joined forces to help 1,500 of the poorest of Colombian children to have a happy holiday this year. Colombian actor Julian Arango is an incredible success in his native country. He is donating his time and talent to help raise funds for this joint effort. Deering Estate's Holiday Wonderland

Through December

Tour the elegant and historic houses at The Deering Estate as they come alive with holiday accents and decorations. The holiday decorating effort is an annual tradition and the special project of the District XII Garden Clubs, the UF Miami-Dade Extension, the FAFCS District and the International Ikebana Society. Hundreds of yards of ribbon and garland, handmade wreaths and thousands of handmade ornaments have been used to decorate the Richmond Cottage and Stone House. You can explore on your own or take a guided tour held daily at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
