This Holiday Season, Give to Those in Need
Joanna
With the holidays approaching, many of us are preparing for a Thanksgiving feast with our families and friends. In keeping with the holiday spirit of caring and sharing, we must not forget about those thousands of people in our community who will not have the means to have a Thanksgiving meal. Please help Hands On Miami with its annual food collection. Last year, 3,000 people received our donations. This year, in the midst of our economic situation, our efforts as a community are more important than ever before.
The food that is donated will go to the women and children served by the Overtown YWCA, and to families served by Sant La, a Haitian neighborhood agency. These recipients are struggling to make ends meet and could use all of the help they can get. Donations can be dropped off on November 20 and 21 at Keiser University in Kendall or at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Miami. UPS has generously offered to pick up larger quantities of food donations. Please contact me to schedule a pick-up.
Also, our annual gift drive will take place on the days leading up to December 13. Donated gifts will bring happy memories to children and teens who would usually receive nothing. The gifts we collect will be given to children of migrant workers, children of women who have suffered from domestic abuse, disadvantaged children associated with the Overtown YWCA and to children of women living with HIV/AIDS.
