Grand Finale: The Creation

In a stunning finale to the six-week long Festival Miami extravaganza, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Helmuth Rilling; and the Frost Chorale, conducted by Jo-Michael Scheibe, combine musical forces to present Haydn's masterpiece, "The Creation." Featured guest soloists include, soprano, Helen Donath, tenor, Lothar Odinius, and bass, Nathan Berg. The Creation's brooding overture reproduces the brilliance of the first light shattering the primordial darkness. Such is Haydn's genius that the work maintains the initial excitement until its rousing conclusion. World renowned conductor Helmuth Rilling leads the Frost School of Music students in a performance that will dazzle you. Tickets range from $15 to $60. Following Saturday's concert a VIP reception will be held for $60 ticketholders.

Behind the Curtain Workshop

The PlayGround Theatre presents an interactive introduction to the inner workings of the theatre production, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" for children ages 8 and up. The workshop is limited to only 30 children who will learn about sets, lighting, costumes, choreography, music, and rehearsals - all the elements of putting together a show. The $70 fee includes enrollment in the workshop and two tickets to a performance of choice. Snacks will be provided, and parents are welcome to join in the fun. Enrollment is limited so call today! Two of South Florida's most prominent artist-in-residency programs have joined forces for a new collaborative exhibition opening at the Bakehouse Art Complex. Resident artists from the Bakehouse and ArtCenter/South Florida explore the contrast between two dominating aesthetics in today's contemporary art - monochromatic and multicolored tones. FARBE presents a balanced representation of 11 artists from each organization, showcasing the talent of these artists and the influence of both organizations in the burgeoning South Florida arts community. The St. Martha-Yamaha Concert Series presents the first of five concerts in the Yamaha Concert Series sponsored by Adrienne Arsht and TotalBank. The NY-based Raphael Trio, with Daniel Epstein (piano), Susan Salm (cello) and Andy Simionescu (violin), will perform pieces from Beethoven, Dvorák and Mozart's Variations for Piano Four Hands with pianist and Artistic Director Paul Posnak. Theatre artists Elizabeth Doud and Jennylin Duany present an interactive performance of moving images, text and sound inspired by the work of Maria Magdalena Campos Pons at the Bass Museum of Art. Doud and Duany are based in Miami where they operate under the name of Las Negras Theater Collective. The two are currently touring Cabaret Unkempt, commissioned by Diverse Works and the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. The performance at the Bass is free with museum admission.

Bergen Philharmonic

Established in 1765, the Bergen Philharmonic is one of the oldest orchestras in the world. The Orchestra has an active recording and touring schedule, and has performed in Japan, Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and major cities throughout Scandinavia. Since Fall 2003, Andrew Litton has been the orchestra's Principal Conductor and was named their Music Director in 2005, the first American to hold this position. The 2007 US tour will be their first in this country and features piano soloist Andre Watts. This performance at the Knight Concert Hall is presented by Concert Association of Florida, and tickets range from $18 to $120.

Hialeah celebrates the Arts with Art Week Hialeah 2007! See the colorful paintings of Emilio Sauma and the Youth Arts Festival at the Walker Community Center (800 W. 29th Street) on Tuesday. An exhibit of photographs by Delio Requeral will be on display on Wednesday at the Raul L. Martinez Government Center (501 Palm Avenue), and on Thursday an exhibit by Cuban artist Luis Posada Carriles at Walker Community Center. Friday night it's Hialeah's Art on Palm (Palm Avenue between Okeechobee Road and 6th Street) featuring the unveiling of Leonel Matheu's sculpture and the Tree Lighting Ceremony to kick off the holidays. Art Week Hialeah 2007 is open to the pubic and free of charge.

Wilderness - Brian F. Call Exhibit

Time Magazine has named Senegalese star Youssou N'Dour one of the "100 Most Influential People" of 2007. See the four-time Grammy winner, Africa's greatest star and "the protector of the Dakar Overgroove," in concert with his big band, the Super Etoile. N'Dour, a Dakar native, has made mbalax (Senegalese music that blends Senegal's traditional percussion and griot singing with Afro-Cuban and indigenous flavors) popular throughout the world in more than 20 years of touring with his band. New World Symphony welcomes Michael Collins, Clarinet (pictured), and Alasdair Neale, Conductor for Celestial Music. Possibly the most divine piece of music for the instrument, Mozart's soaring Clarinet Concerto shows us why the prodigy was thought to have channeled the gods. Kernis summons angels in his mystical piece for strings. Written shortly after Stalin's death, Shostakovich's Tenth is a striking musical portrait of the dictator whose iron fist stifled the composer for years. Program includes: Kernis: Musica celestis; Mozart: Clarinet Concerto; and Shostakovich: Symphony No. 10. Performances are Fri and Sat at 8 p.m. and Sun at 3. Tickets range from $27 to $78.

African Dance Celebration

New World School of the Arts and the University of Florida collaborate to present African Dance Celebration with over 50 dancers performing modern dance pieces by contemporary choreographers Garth Fagan, Peter London and Uri Sands and traditional African dance choreographed by Mohamed DaCosta. Jamaican-born Fagan is internationally renowned for his Tony Award-winning choreography for Lion King (1997); Mohamed DaCosta is a faculty member at the University of Florida; Peter London is on faculty at New World School of the Arts; and Uri Sands, a graduate of NWSA. Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $5. Sunday in the Park with George

In 1994 New York City Center launched its Encores! Series - Broadway musicals in concert with emphasis on the music and lyrics with minimal scenery and staging. These concerts have grown in popularity and are now in-demand theatrical attractions. The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre will present its own concert version of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sunday in the Park with George." This moving portrait of the enigmatic painter Georges Seurat won a Pulitzer Prize for its deeply insightful and highly personal examination of the artist. Performances are Weds - Sat at 8 p.m. and Sat and Sun at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $8 to $20.
