Media Watch

Dear Media Watchers: Please check out some of the latest fare from fashion in the two links below and write a letter to V Mag for their appliance porn and to Meisel again in Italian Vogue for his Make Love Not War series. Nice idea, wrong execution.

To protest, contact V Magazine, at 212-274-8959, or the those listed in this editorial. Ask them to stop using depictions of violence against women under the guise of home improvement. Photography by Mario Sorrenti, entitled, Home Improvement, from issue V49

If you haven't visited Helen Bamber Foundation and seen their work with survivors of cruelty, please do. Anita Roddick (The Body Shop) was working on this campaign at the time of her recent death. If you watch the PSA, I am Elena, with Emma Thompson be FOREWARNED, it may trigger survivors of sexual abuse as it is a graphic, very powerful and disturbing look at the reality of today's global sex industry as she describes the two people who live inside her and need your help.

Help stop racism--please add your support to the Jena 6. They need to hear from all of us concerning the legal injustice this small black community is facing in Louisiana. Read more:

ALSO: if you have a chance sign this petition. We urge all Morton West administrators to drop all disciplinary action against the students who took part in an antiwar gathering, and to remove any indications of said events from their permanent records. We urge you to respect these students right to free expression now and in the future.

Stay Active--Speak up whenever racism, sexism and classism rears its head. IF NOT YOU? WHO? IF NOT NOW? WHEN?

Given the many troubles that rock our world, being concerned with media representation of race and gender may appear trivial. We believe that fair and just portrayals play an instrumental part in the human justice movement and must be considered to create a social environment of mutual respect. Let us know if YOU have a campaign to add, or want to thank a group for doing a good job!

Also, whenever you think of donating to a tax-deductible, nonprofit this holiday season--please know that EVERY LITTLE BIT of money goes a long way in helping our all-volunteer agency stay afloat.
