Community Threads
Grab your knitter looms, needles, crochet materials and join us in making hats and scarves for individuals undergoing cancer treatment at The Wellness Community in Greater Miami. The Wellness Community provides free psychological and emotional support for people with cancer and their families. Experienced and non-skilled knitters are welcomed to participate-no experience needed! Volunteers must bring their own materials. This project is open to active and pending volunteers. *A new volunteer orientation will be held prior to the project at 6:30pm.The project itself begins at 7:00pm. Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 16. (8- 10 volunteers) (project #30)

Good Times at the Miami Bridge
Come spend an evening at the Miami Bridge shelter for runaway teens. Activities include ping-pong, board games, or arts and crafts. Your visit will truly make a difference in the lives of these teens! Volunteers must be 21 years and older. (8-11 volunteers) (project #11)

Botanical Garden
The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is a green oasis in the heart of South Beach. Bromeliads, orchids and tropical palms thrive, along with other exotic plants. Volunteers will help with gardening activities. Family- friendly: minimum age with an adult is 12. (8-15 volunteers) (project #26)

Neat Stuff
Join us at the historic Marjory Stoneman Douglas cottage in Coconut Grove. Ms. Douglas built the cottage in 1926 and lived there for more than seventy years. The outside of the cottage, which is now a designated historic monument managed by the Land Trust, is in need of some upkeep. Sort clothing, books, and toys at Neat Stuff Inc., where foster children can "buy" items free of charge. Help them get the "stuff" they need for school or play. This project is YVC Friendly. (3-8 volunteers) (project #15)

Nails at HHSB
The Hebrew Home of South Beach seniors enjoy our visit. Volunteers provide simple manicures and great conversation. This project is perfect for first time volunteers. Experienced volunteers are also welcome! Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 11. Spanish-speaking volunteers especially welcome. (3-6 volunteers) (project #41)

With HOM Day over there are over a hundred shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, paint supplies, and other tools that need to be stored-- we're looking at up to 500 square feet of space! Celebrate National Family Volunteer Day Food Drive!

Help make Thanksgiving a happy time for families served y the Overtown YWCA & the Center for Sant La, a Haitian neighborhood agency.

What: Help these families by collecting food and bringing it to the Hands On Miami office prior to November 16th. Financial donations received prior to November 15th will be used to purchase turkeys.

EXECUTIVE EFFECTIVE BOARD LEADERSHIP TRAINING

A NUTS AND BOLTS SEMINAR
Hands On Miami, in partnership with United Way of Miami-Dade's Young Leaders Society, is presenting a seminar series for people wishing to acquire or enhance skills to serve on boards of non-profit organizations. Participants will hear from local experts on a variety of topics, including the roles and responsibilities of non-profit board members, legal and ethical considerations, fiscal management, fundraising, human resources, public relations, marketing, and demographics and delivery of services in Miami-Dade County.

The 3-part seminar presented will be held on three consecutive evening nights from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The cost is $100 per person for all three sessions.

Please fill out all pertinent information; indicating your full name and contact information, under the 'Purpose of Gift' Section please check the Registration Fee box, include the $100 fee amount, and select "Effective Board Leadership course".

Whoever said, "One person can make a difference" must have been talking about Ralph Nader. For over forty years Nader has taken on big business and corporate America all in the name of the people. But lately this consumer advocate's halo has been a bit tarnished. Is he a hero? A villain? A principled man? Or an egomaniac? Follow Stephen Skrovan and Henriette Mandel as they chronicle Ralph Nader's life and times and YOU decide which one is he.

"Spreading the Love" Radio Thon
Support the efforts of McDonald's, Mega 94.9 and DSLi to raise money for a great cause, The Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) of South Florida. Since it's establishment, RMHC of South Florida has provided a safe home for over 22, 000 families. Miami's Ronald McDonald House is located in the heart of Jackson Memorial Hospital!

Support the RMHC by volunteering during one of the radio thon's three shifts. Volunteers will answer the phones during the special event as Mega 94.9 listeners' call to make a donation to the charity.

Miracle Walk/Run
The proceeds of Miracle Walk/Run will go toward Transplant Foundation, Inc., and Transplant House, Inc., whose common goal is the good health of our community.

Transplant House is a 14-room guesthouse for pre- and post-transplant patients and their families. Transplant Foundation, Inc., affiliated with the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, is a non- profit charitable organization dedicated to funding patient services, public education to increase organ donation and lifesaving transplant research.
