Dan Zanes and Friends deliver a fun-filled afternoon of sing-along songs for 21st century kids and their families in the Knight Concert Hall. As seen on "Playhouse Disney," the show is filled with irresistible folk music, rock tunes and danceable beats drawn from a wealth of musical traditions. You'll be dancing in the aisles! A World of Hope

The 5th "A World of Hope" Conference, hosted by the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, presents an update for people with type 1 diabetes and their families. At this day-long conference you will learn about innovative technologies, new, cell-based therapies and the latest projects aimed at restoring insulin production in patients. Meet the scientists who are turning promising discoveries into novel treatments for type 1 diabetes patients. Lunch is provided, and there will be exhibitors and informational booths open throughout the day. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m., the first presentation at 9. Manolo Valdés Exhibition
November 3

An outdoor exhibition of monumental bronze and steel sculptures by acclaimed Spanish artist Manolo Valdés will be on display through February 28. Included in the exhibition are four 13-feet high sculptures depicting female heads with dynamic ornamental head-pieces (pictured). The City of Miami Beach and the renowned Marlborough Gallery collaborated in the installation, which is free and open to the public.

Sleepless Night

Set your clocks now to fall back and culture forward because Sleepless Night will be in Miami Beach in the blink of an eye! From dance performances and sculpture gardens to live bands and street parades, the free, 13-hour innovative cultural affair will get underway at 6 p.m. and not stop till sunrise at 6 a.m. the next day. Sleepless Night is a collaboration of all the city's major cultural institutions, theaters, galleries, and arts organizations, along with hotels, shops, nightclubs, restaurants and individual artists and presenters. Events for children will be held during the earlier part of the night. Free public transportation will connect four major zones of activity - North Beach, Collins Park, Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive. Live performances will take place on the buses so that participants will not miss a moment of culture. Sounds of the Times: American Originals

Classical music may have begun in Europe, but the U.S. has homegrown innovations that probe the boundaries of the orchestra. New World Symphony's Michael Tilson Thomas brings you today's finest American music, including the return of "Turn the Key," a composition written by an electric guitarist that will have you literally clapping in the aisles. The Pulitzer Prize-winning Charles Wuorinen has gone electric with his amplified cello concerto, while Morton Feldman upends concerto conventions in Piano and Orchestra. Two champions of new music, Fred Sherry and Jeremy Denk, join your favorite maestro in giving a whole new meaning to red, white and blue. Tickets are $15.

Ramsey Lewis Trio

36th Annual South Miami Art Festival

Chamber South presents their annual art festival, well known in the region as one of the finest! Browse more than 150 artist booths nestled in along the town's sidewalks between cafes, quaint shops and lush landscaping. You can select art from a variety of media, including paintings, jewelry, metalwork, glass, photography, ceramics and more. International food vendors offer a wide array of cuisine, plus musical entertainment and special activities for the kids. This year's official print is by Humberto Benitez, and a special commemorative T-shirt has been designed by Dania Sierra. Both are available for sale. There is no admission charge, and South Miami has ample parking in addition to the South Miami MetroRail station. The festival is sponsored by SunTrust Bank, along with Baptist Health South Florida and Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Department.

Pablo Cano's Viva Vaudeville

Featuring a delightful cast of Cano's life-size marionettes and rod puppets composed of found objects, Viva Vaudeville is inspired by popular theater performers of the early 1900s. The set recalls a sumptuous theater resplendent with a gold-fringed, red velvet curtain, and a glittering backdrop. The score mixes a selection from the artists' collection of recordings of popular songs of the 1920s and two original compositions performed by a live band. But best of all are the colorful performers - Busty Galore, Lady Mandolin, Lucifer Red Diablo, Kiki She Devil and others. Performances are 1 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for MOCA members, North Miami residents and employees; $15 for non-members; $3 for children under 12. Seating is limited so advance reservations and payment are required.

Swinging Brazilian Jazz Machine

Three of the most important jazz musicians in Brazil form a "power trio" known as the Nosso Trio. The group - Nelson Faria (guitar), Ney Conceicao (contrabass) and Kiko Freitas (drums), emerged from João Bosco's band, the legendary Brazilian singer/songwriter, to become the Nosso Trio, a tight, energetic and swinging Brazilian jazz machine. Julio Boca Ballet Argentino

Lithe and graceful, Argentinean superstar Julio Bocca set the ballet world afire as a member of American Ballet Theatre. In 1990 he founded his own company, Ballet Argentino, to show the genius of other young Argentine dancers. Concert Association of Florida presents Ballet Argentino in a red-hot performance of Boccatango. Bocca removes tango from its usual steamy ballroom setting and transforms it into a thrilling balleticized version of the classic art form. It's sexy and serious, smooth and sharp. Don't miss it! Looking at Dance with Momentum Dance Company

This popular program presented by Momentum Dance Company could be called an introduction to dance criticism. It breaks dance works down into their component parts (space, structure, use of body, theme, dynamics) and has the audience analyze them through questions and discussion. It shows how this process can be repeated with any dance work to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the art of dance. You'll see excerpts from The Exiles, Brecht Suite, Grow and a new unnamed work in progress. Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 for students and seniors.

Miami Book Fair International

More than 350 prize-winning, best-selling and emerging authors from all around the world will present during the week-long festival. The champagne reception on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. is a special event for Bay Point Schools, a nonprofit facility that provides educational, vocational and therapeutic services to moderate-risk adolescent boys. A portion of sales from the trunk show will benefit the school.

Sunday in the Park with George

In 1994 New York City Center launched its Encores! Series - Broadway musicals in concert with emphasis on the music and lyrics with minimal scenery and staging. These concerts have grown in popularity and are now in-demand theatrical attractions. The Jerry Herman Ring Theatre will present its own concert version of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sunday in the Park with George." This moving portrait of the enigmatic painter Georges Seurat won a Pulitzer Prize for its deeply insightful and highly personal examination of the artist. Performances are Weds - Sat at 8 p.m. and Sat and Sun at 2 p.m. Tickets range from $8 to $20.

3rd Annual IKF Latin American Art Auction 2007

Known as "the collector's auction," you'll find world class art offered in silent and live auctions. New this year is the Collector's Corner, a select group of donated works by South Florida collectors, who are contributing to IKF's efforts. This signature event for the International Kids Fund (IKF), a program of Jackson Memorial Foundation, is devoted to art, charity and fun. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres provided. Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door. Proceeds go to providing medical care to needy children from around the world who suffer from serious illnesses and cannot be treated in their home countries. Who can say no?

"Disappearances" by Jay Craven

See Kris Kristofferon in "Disappearances," an independent film by Jay Craven, the last in a trilogy of "Vermont frontier films." The story is based on the award-winning novel by Howard Frank Mosher, a tall tale with a mix of hair-raising adventure, laugh-out-loud humor, compelling emotional drama, and magical realist whimsy. Grand Finale: The Creation

In a stunning finale to the six-week long Festival Miami extravaganza, the Frost Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Helmuth Rilling; and the Frost Chorale, conducted by Jo-Michael Scheibe, combine musical forces to present Haydn's masterpiece, "The Creation." Featured guest soloists include, soprano, Helen Donath, tenor, Lothar Odinius, and bass, Nathan Berg. The Creation's brooding overture reproduces the brilliance of the first light shattering the primordial darkness. Such is Haydn's genius that the work maintains the initial excitement until its rousing conclusion. World renowned conductor Helmuth Rilling leads the Frost School of Music students in a performance that will dazzle you. Tickets range from $15 to $60. Behind the Curtain Workshop

The PlayGround Theatre presents an interactive introduction to the inner workings of the theatre production, "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" for children ages 8 and up. The workshop is limited to only 30 children who will learn about sets, lighting, costumes, choreography, music, and rehearsal - all the elements of putting together a show. Triptych

Inside Out Theatre presents Triptych by Edna O'Brien, directed by Kim St. Leon, with an awarding-winning cast. It's the story of three women - a wife, a mistress and a daughter - and the intermingling of their lives as they revolve around a successful writer. O'Brien's play is a passionate and provocative piece that depicts love's ability to simultaneously unfetter and ensnare.
