Bedtime Stories
Volunteers visit the Salvation Army shelter for homeless children to read bedtime stories and make sure their dreams are sweet. First Timers project. Experienced volunteers are also welcome! Family- friendly: minimum age with an adult is 16. (8-10 volunteers) (project #19)

Good Times at the Miami Bridge
Come spend an evening at the Miami Bridge shelter for runaway teens. Activities include ping-pong, board games, or arts and crafts. Your visit will truly make a difference in the lives of these teens! Volunteers must be 21 years and older. (8-11 volunteers) (project #11)

Job Zone & Money Talks
Volunteers are invited to participate in hands-on projects about the job exploration process and educate kids about finances at Regis House, a program for court-appointed teens. Help them find a better future! (2-4 volunteers) (project #13)

The House that Marjory Built
Join us at the historic Marjory Stoneman Douglas cottage in Coconut Grove. Ms. Douglas built the cottage in 1926 and lived there for more than seventy years. The outside of the cottage, which is now a designated historic monument managed by the Land Trust, is in need of some upkeep. Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 7. (12-15 volunteers) (project #27)

Zoo Beautification
Help MetroZoo maintain the gardens and exhibitions at the park. After we're done, everyone is welcome to enjoy the zoo! Family-friendly: minimum age with an adult is 16. (20-25 volunteers) (project #29)

ONE DAY LEFT UNTIL HOM DAY 2007!

More than 4,000 volunteers will show their love of Miami by taking part in the 13th annual Hands On Miami Day on Saturday, November 3rd 2007, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Caring citizens will clean, paint, plant trees and create murals at 24 project sites from Homestead to North Miami Beach.
Volunteer efforts will focus on improving the learning environment at 17 "mini-extreme makeover" Miami-Dade County public school locations, as well as taking care of our local ecosystem at 7 environmental projects throughout Miami-Dade County. All volunteers will receive complimentary Starbucks breakfast, a free commemorative shirt, and an invitation to the post-event celebration at Finnegan's on the River, at 401 SW Third Avenue, Miami, 33130.

It's not too late to sign up! Walk-in registration on November 3rd, is available at only FOUR locations, and the cost is $35.00. The following projects that offer walk-in registrations are: Westview Middle School, Dade Marine North, North Shore Open Space Park & Greening the V. A Special Wish!

Hands On Miami is in need of warehouse space for tools! With HOM Day approaching there are over hundred shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, paint supplies, and other tools that need to be stored-- we're looking at up to 500 square feet of space! Celebrate National Family Volunteer Day Food Drive!

Help make Thanksgiving a happy time for families served y the Overtown YWCA & the Center for Sant La, a Haitian neighborhood agency.
When: Saturday, November 17, 2007
What: Help these families by collecting food and bringing it to the Hands On Miami office prior to November 16th. Financial donations received prior to November 15th will be used to purchase turkeys.
