Daily Candy- new restaurant- Joey’s

Culinary Art
Joey’s Italian Cafe Opens

Gallerina 1: Darling! You must be en route to Perrotin.

Gallerina 2: No, I caught opening night. I’ve been perusing at Fusion and Dorsch.

G1: Wynwood’s so witty and beguiling, and, how to say it?

G2: Freaking expensive.

G1 (whispering): Not Joey’s, Wynwood’s first restaurant, opening tomorrow. It’s named after Joey Goldman, whose family practically created the area. The chef’s from Veneto, Italy, and his cuisine’s typical of eateries near Venice.

G2: Charming!

G1: A three-course prix fixe is just $19 at lunch and $28 at dinner, including dishes like herb-roasted Cornish hen, warm octopus with chickpeas, cod baked with eggplant, and lamb chops with juniper berry reduction.

G2: Please tell me the wine trumps the swill they serve at openings.

G1: It’s a discerning variety of Italians, from table wines to amarones and Super Tuscans.

G2: Sounds like the next big thing.

Joey’s, 2506 Northwest 2nd Avenue, Wynwood (305-438-0488 or joeyswynwood.com).
